Blurt Vs Steem and Hive

in witness-discussion •  3 years ago  (edited)

The last week we have seen several witnesses and it was tough to even understand why they were leaving.

Turns out some guys from Steemit doesn't like the idea that there are Steemit witnesses who are also active witnesses here on Blurt.

It is my understanding that these witnesses have been threatened by someone to quit Blurt or they will withdraw support and votes.

I understand why these witnesses would want to leave. Steem is more lucrative, the price is better and there are at least a million users there.

They will make more money on Steem than here in Blurt.

But Blurt

But Blurt has been hated by everyone. It is kind of romantic that Steem and Hive whales are united in their hate for Blurt.

Why do they hate Blurt?

It's plain and simple Blurt gives you all the same kind of freedom. And the most important reason why they hate Blurt is that we removed and threw away the code of the infamous Down-votes button.

Hive and Steem whales love playing with their tiny little Down-vote buttons. 😉

Below are a few reasons why people feel scared of Blurt:

  1. No Down-vote button and it means that the Whales can't control the smaller guy

  2. Small users have a big chance of making it big without buying large stakes of Blurt

  3. Developers and creative people get complete freedom to create anything they want.

  4. Blurt doesn't die. They tried a lot to kill Blurt by attacking Blurt blockchain in different ways but Blurt doesn't die because it is not controlled by one guy or a team it is run by many individuals and several teams from around the world

  5. Blurt blockchain is so small and compact that it can be run from a Raspberry Pi.

Most of all Blurt is for everyone. We do not tell users what to do. All we ask if users is to be fair to all and produce original content.

Attacks that Blurt survived

I think it is important that I share the different ways Blurt was attacked in the past and we fought them all.

I am mentioning this here so that you guys will know that whenever they have tried to attack us it has only made us strong.

1. The di*k pic attack

This happened early in Blurt's journey. When Jacob and MegaDrive started Blurt in July 2020 some mischievous guy started to post hundreds of di*k pics in order to discourage new users from joining Blurt.

I wasn't around back then. Jacob was quick to implement fees for posting and commenting in order to stop the attack and it stopped.

Jacob oftentimes joked about it and said well, they have the freedom to share indecent pics but they better pay some fees and do whatever they wish to do.

2. The Dreadful Christmas Attack

This was the worst attack Blurt has faced. It was sometime in December 2020. The attacker found something with the transactions and started to fill empty blocks and tried to bloat the Blockchain.

It took the Blurt team around a month to get everything working and the sad part of it all was that the team could not celebrate Christmas with their families as they were working day and night.

I'm grateful to all the Blurt Developers, Core Team members and the witnesses for their dedication.

But the fortunate conclusion with this incident was that it brought the core team and the witnesses closer and a trusted close group was formed that still exists today.

3. The UniSwap hack

Jacob was really excited about Uniswap so he got Blurt listed on Uniswap. He asked a few close friends and Blurt members to put in some money into Uniswap and he set it all up.

But unfortunately someone hacked and got away with the Blurt and ETH.

Since then Blurt has been listed on several exchanges and it is stronger than ever.

4. Sister Chain attacks

These were small personal attacks or Down-votes on Hive. Many users used to promote Blurt on Hive and some Hive whales didn't approve of it so they downvoted posts about Blurt.

5. Mother Chain attacks

I call Steemit mother chain because Hive, Blurt and Serey are the forks of Steem.

Recently some whale on Steemit has asked Steem witnesses to withdraw their activities from other blockchains and if they fail to do so then they will not be supported.

My Message to everyone

Many people tried to push Blurt down. Some tried to bury Blurt but what they did not know is that Blurt is an idea and when you bury ideas they sprout and grow into great trees.

Blurt has something that no other Blockchain has. Blurt has freedom of speech and the ideals of decentralisation.

We try to keep them up and we will never stop anyone from spreading their wings on other Blockchains.

In fact we appreciate if our users, developers, and witnesses use their skills on other chains and add value to other blockchains.

And do not worry if some whale on Steemit or Hive tries to control what you can and cannot do because Blurt is growing and it will keep growing despite all the threats, and attacks.

Brave Witness

In the end I would like to bring your attention to a Blurt witness who was active on Steemit and was working as an official CR and greeter. She left her roles and responsibilities on Steemit because her association with Blurt was being questioned by some Steemit team members.

Her name is @Randula and she comes from Sri Lanka.

She's a witness here and I would like to request you all to vote for her witness and support her for she is braver then many others here.

Vote for Randula:

P.S: My friend @IamMufasa has recently started as a Blurt witness. Please support him by voting for his witness.

Thank you for the mention and support. I have heard about some of these attacks.. But I didn't know all of these... Blurt has survived from all these things. That means no one can stop the blurt being the best platform one day.

Wow.. Thanks for sharing this stories. As a new member, I never knew what obstacles blurt had faced to get to where it today.

What doesn't kill you make you stronger.

My intention was to share the struggle Blurt faced and to show that no matter what Blurt will thrive.

I was downvoted in hive because of writing about blurt

who hasn't been downvoted on hive cause of something stupid lol

A proverb says; "The tree that bears fruit is stoned"

I honestly don't get all the petty fighting going on between chains.

Sure the hostile takeover of steem sucked but like.. I'm over it.. I only support hive and blurt now. Hive cause it's my home and where I do most things. Blurt because it's an interesting alternative, different (tech wise with the fees and no rc etc) and I want to see where it goes. (and perhaps help it get there)

it is actually kind of positive to have more than one as healthy competition pushes platforms to grow and evolve and more users to know about the space. The same way costa, Starbucks and Nero and Pret all survive.

I stick to steemit and blurt hives the worst of the worst its too toxic for me.

Blurt will stay for good 👍

I am blocked by Justin Scum, that says it all. And I am very active on various websites, including Noise, Whaleshares, Hive and Blurt. Also many others...

So nice post on this topic bro!
I will choose Blurt definitely.
It's my love and passion.

Steemit does not have a million users. It has a million daily visitors, which is still nice...

steemitvisit.JPG

But it only has 3,390 daily users... 😉

They have a million registered users. And a million views a day is a lot.

They have a million abandoned accounts! 🤣

Maybe... Haha...

I still post on steemit but it's pretty boring over there tbh, it's just not much engagment. ive was a lot of engagement but just like 'nice pic' and kinda boring blurt is actually the only one I have rly felt fully satisfied using like I actually have conversations on here I find fulfilling.

but it's pretty boring over there...

This ties into what I said about the Culture of Corporate Capitalism on Steemit, which causes social stagnation because the main focus is the value of the token, and not the value of social interaction. This can only lead to boredom.

yeah it reminds me of London in a way , artists and eccentrics move to cheaper areas build unique coffee shops and bakeries, make the areas fun and interesting, so the rich developers move in and then they all leave and before long the exciting things about the area go and so the cool area keeps moving around. The blogs are the same the crazy artists and freethinkers make places cool then get driven off by capital greed so they go find somewhere else lol hive and steemit are just boring as hell now so eventually ppl will want to come here because its more fun and there is more banter and life. You can already see the whales coming here, they pretend to troll but really they just want the excitement of engaging here.

Years ago, a Bloomberg article started off like this:

It’s an old story, the stuff of urban legend and conventional wisdom: First come the artists, then come the yuppies. But is this really the case? Are artists the “shock troops” of gentrification?

Their answer was "no", with a long drawn-out boring-ass study, but my answer is "yes" because artists exist on three levels in any society: the main culture, the subculture and the counterculture...

This..... (but not just for the reason you say, imo)
Gonna get interesting....

I think they miss the banter to be honest if they’ve got no one to argue with they get bored and we will come here

For many users, yeah - I agree with you.
Have you seen how dull hive as become?....My god...(I still have to enter toxic hell to check up on my power downs)

But I'm not talking about the regular users who like fun an engagement.
I'm talking about the control freaks who may very well see the direction that things are heading.
Free speech over tyranny and toxicity ?
Who could have ever worked out which'd be a more attractive proposition ? lol.

With that prospect dawning, and potential collapse of interest and drop in token price - a mind melt .
Expect the influx of 'new users', who will try and make it ugly.

....If only we could find a midwit czar that's happy to take on the job of identifying these toxic individuals....

how many daily users does blurt have?

I haven't come across any sites so far that can give us that figure. We have about 22,000 dialy visitors of which 50% are from Nigeria, but daily users, don't know.

lol sorry I could not help but laugh at the dick pic thing, I think this just shows how much of a threat they see blurt rly to put so much focus on it, if they didn't worry about it they would just ignore it.

fascinating hearing about all blurt has gone through, I wish I had found it sooner :D
