Getting From Point A to Point B...

in wellness •  22 days ago

I spent some time talking to a friend earlier today, and we got on the topic of medications, and how they affect us.

As of late, I have been dealing with low energy levels and how to manage everything in my world when what I'd most like to do is just lay down and take a nap.

Of course, we're both taking heart medication as a means to control elevated blood pressure, a "gift" we've both been genetically bestowed with.

One of the ways these drugs are designed to work (among other things) is that it slows your pulse. And when your pulse is slower, it takes longer for oxygen to circulate in your body, as a result of which you have less energy.

It's one of those situations in which you definitely end up healthier, but you also end up with less energy.

I'm mostly OK with it because I was never all that energetic, to begin with. My friend... not so much. She's historically been more of the "Energizer bunny" type.

Don't get me wrong — I'm grateful to be alive, and grateful that I'm not at immediate risk of stroke.heart attack as I have been, in the past.

In a way, the whole experience is a somewhat poignant reminder of just how much of life is a tradeoff, of sorts.

For me, the whole "You can have it ALL!" flag waving has always felt like ever so much bullshit to me. No, you can' have it all, and the mere idea that you can is based on bogus marketing from organizations who mostly just want you to spend your money on "it all."

"Having it all" isn't about actual well-being, it's about consumption.

And I'm really not onboard with that!

We had a nice visit, and I'm actually quite at peace with moving more slowly!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

Nothing wrong with a few naps each day. I take as many as possible. I’m on lots of medications too… high cholesterol, High blood pressure and Gout… which is the worst. I don’t need a lot of stuff… happy to go for long walks with my dog and kayaks on the lake.
