HARMATTAN - BITTERSWEET
Greetings everyone and welcome to my blog once again.
If you read my Introduction post you'll see that I mentioned I currently love to travel around and visit different states.
I actually live in Lagos, but currently I'm in Kano state which is in the northern part of my country.
Apart from the cultural difference and lifestyle difference one major thing that sets the north apart from other regions is the weather.
Northern Nigeria records some of the highest temperature during the year. When it's the dry season everywhere becomes so hot sometimes it's unbearable, this has become almost synonymous with the north.
But the truly interesting part is it's harmattan season. The harmattan is usually caused by some kind of dey wind which is very cold. This is mostly because of the closeness to Niger republic and the Sahara desert than other parts of Nigeria.
Right now I'm in Kano state and it's been somewhat a happy sad story as I'm happy there's no heat, but having problems dealing with so much cold since I'm a lagosian (someone who lives in Lagos).
Harmattan here starts around the second to third week of December and then progresses to much colder temperatures as we get closer to January.
Although I've been to a few places like the Bayero University Kano, the cold hasn't made me able to leave the house so much. Looking forward to exploring Kano before I still leave though.
Thanks for stopping by.
