cilantro is good, but not so much

I came across a book about Venezuelan saying and customs and some old sayings that were used in Venezuela caught my attention. Among them, the first one I noticed was the one I just cited in this post. The interpretation of the saying is simple in appearance, that is, even what is good is not so good if it is exaggerated.

The point is that knowing the malice and the tendency to use words with multiple meanings, I am never sure that the simple and direct interpretation is correct, however, even if it has some hidden connotation that I did not understand, I have to admit that the advice that I can extract from this saying is simple, clear and quite good: Everything in excess hurts, even if they are good things in the beginning.

Bueno es cilantro, pero no tanto

Me encontré con un libro sobre dicho y costumbres venezolanas y me llamó la atención algunos antiguos refranes que se usaban en Venezuela. Entre ellos, el primero que noté fue el que acabo de citar en esta publicación. La interpretación del refrán es simple en apariencia, es decir, incluso lo que es bueno no es tan bueno si se exagera.

La cuestión es que conociendo la malicia y la tendencia a usar palabras con multiples significados, nunca estoy seguro de que la interpretación sencilla y directa sea la correcta, sin embargo, incluso si tiene alguna connotación oculta que no logró entender, tengo que admitir que el consejo que puedo extraer de este refrán es simple, claro y bastante bueno: Todo en exceso perjudica, incluso si son cosas buenas en un inicio.
