Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
Let's gain some knowledge about Surah Al-Baqarah verse 93.
Surah Al-Baqarah is the second chapter of the Quran, and verse 93 is a part of this chapter. Here is a detailed explanation of Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 93:
Surah Al-Baqarah, the verse 93, is as follows:
"And [recall] when We took your covenant and raised over you the mount, [saying], 'Take what We have given you with determination and listen.' They said [instead], 'We hear and disobey.' And their hearts absorbed [the worship of] the calf because of their disbelief. Say, 'How wretched is that which your faith enjoins upon you if you should be believers.'"
This verse refers to an incident that occurred during the time of Prophet Moses (Musa, peace be upon him) and the Israelites.
It recounts the event when Allah (God) made a covenant with the Children of Israel after rescuing them from the oppression of Pharaoh and parting the Red Sea for them.
The phrase "when We took your covenant" refers to the moment when Allah took a solemn pledge from the Israelites to abide by His commandments and worship Him alone.
The phrase "and raised over you the mount" refers to the incident known as the "Mount Sinai Covenant" or the "Covenant at Mount Sinai." According to Islamic tradition, Allah caused Mount Sinai to be lifted above the Israelites, and they witnessed extraordinary signs and heard the voice of Allah.
During this remarkable event, Allah commanded the Israelites to accept the divine guidance with determination and to listen attentively to the commandments that would be revealed to them. However, instead of wholeheartedly accepting and obeying the commandments, the Israelites responded by saying, "We hear and disobey." This response indicated their lack of commitment and their inclination to disobedience.
Their hearts, influenced by their disbelief, were drawn toward the worship of the golden calf. While Prophet Moses (Musa) was on Mount Sinai receiving the divine revelations, some of the Israelites resorted to idolatry and worshiped a golden calf, despite having witnessed the miraculous signs and receiving clear instructions against associating partners with Allah.
The verse highlights the severity of their action, as it emphasizes the wretchedness and contradiction inherent in their faith.
It suggests that their faith should have prevented them from engaging in such idolatrous practices. Their disobedience and inclination towards idol worship were seen as a betrayal of the covenant they had made with Allah.
In the context of the Quran, this verse serves as a reminder to believers of the consequences of straying from the straight path and the dangers of associating partners with Allah.
It emphasizes the importance of remaining steadfast in faith and being conscious of the guidance provided by Allah. It also warns against the negative consequences of allowing disbelief and disobedience to corrupt one's heart and actions.
Overall, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 93, provides a powerful lesson from the history of the Israelites and their failure to uphold their covenant with Allah, serving as a reminder for believers to uphold their own commitments and remain steadfast in their faith.
