Some fun facts about Liz Truss: her full name is Mary Elizabeth Truss. "Mary" sounds a lot softer than "Liz", doesn't it?

She was born on 26th July 1975, just five months after Margaret Thatcher became leader of the Conservative Party on 11th Feb 1975. Thatcher then went on to win the first of three general elections in 1979.

That means that for the first fifteen years of Liz Truss's life, a woman was in charge of the Tories.

Formative experiences and all that. Thatcher's children are now in power.
