World OF The Married is one Korean drama tv series I like and enjoyed watching so much. With a number of 16 episodes, it was directed by Mo Wan-il and starred wonderful actors like Kim Hee-ae, Park Hae-Joon, Park Sun-young, Kim Young-Min, Jeon Jin-seo amongst others.
Synopsis
Ji Sun-woo has the perfect marriage, a great husband and a lovely son. But her perfect world of marriage came crumbling due to lies and betrayal.
World of married revolves around the world of different married couples and how complicated being married can be as well as the good side of being married, which is owed to some important virtues. The main family in the drama is Ji Sun-woo, Tae ho and their lovely son Joon-young....with a couple of friends and neighbours. In the first episode they were portrayed as a perfect family filled with love but soon you see lies lurking in the dark getting ready to be revealed. The first episode was able to portray the setting of a lovely family and also showed the lives of those around them, their friends. The series is neatly knitted around these people as they all have their different stories.
In subsequent episodes, it becomes clear that the perfect family is not at all perfect as Ji Sun-woo found out that her husband has been having an affair with a younger lady. Not only was she betrayed by her husband who committed adultery she was also deceived and lied to by her friends who knew about the affair but pretended not to know and even covered up for him. Following this discovery, it became a story of heartbreak, hurt, revenge and rash decisions.
There is also the story of Ko Ye Rim, a patient wife who is willing to do everything she can, to make her falling marriage work despite knowing her husband non-chalant attitude in the marriage...but you know everyone has a limit to what they can take. Son Je Hyuk is the cheating husband who does as he please without considering his wife...but there is a saying "You don't know the value of what you have till you loose it".
The drama highlights the good and bad sides of marriage and how complicated it can be. It's story is one that the viewers could easily relate to, in our present world where divorce and adultery is so common. It reflected us as humans in relating to love, obsession, cheating, revenge, decisions that are not thought out carefully, divorce and even remarriage. It holds out questions to the viewers, more like a question of if you dare to be in his or her shoes would you have done better or make better decisions. I felt the the emotions of Ji Su-woo, the hurt and how betrayed she must have felt and I could understand why she took certain decisions even though it seemed selfish and extreme. The drama goes further to show how "not so" easy it is to let go of feelings just because one is tired...not like a switch button you can put on and off at will.
It was able to portray the effects the topic of divorce and selfish decisions can have on a child, how they become torn between the parents. Most times when stuffs like this happen the kids tend to be at the receiving end of it all....leaving a big negative effect on the kids. In this case, Joon young having witnessed his father cheating was caught in the middle of the chaos. Confused and hurt, I remember a question he asked his mother..."what was did I do wrong, why should I suffer?"... It wasn't his fault but he had to suffer for the mistakes the adult made, which affected him psychologically...he even began to steal things in a way to vent his anger and also exhibiting weird behaviours, which was annoying at a point but understandable. The drama tried to point these effects out as there are so many kids out going through the same, so pointing that out was worth it.
And just when you think the lady her husband cheated on her with should be happy, you see a repeat of the same circle, a question of if a man that cheated once would not cheat again...there you begin to see regrets and the words "You can't eat your cake and have it" come into play. Yeah! Another important part of the message is that divorce isn't always the best option. Not as easy at it sounds, but if you can save your marriage then you should.
Learning to forgive and also letting go of the past so you can move on...if you don't let go you can't move on.
The performance by the actors is amazing and exceptional, I mean you could feel the emotions. I love the strong character of Kim Hee-ae as Ji Sun-woo, oh my! I could hug right now, she is so good. Her performance was beautiful, watching her go in and out of her different characters was amazing. At first you see how good and kindhearted she can be...a perfect woman but when she is hurt and broken, you see her become a different person, filled with spite and ready to take all those who messes with her down.
In portraying these characters you could see how well she carries herself not showing to the world of "friends" how broken and hurt she is. Her acting is exceptional which contributed greatly to the success of the drama series. Park Hae-joon as Lee Tae-oh also did great in his acting, playing in between a loving husband, a cheat and a father was great to see. Jeon Jin-seo as Lee Joon-young, the son, is also good in his acts...giving a wonderful performance at a young age makes me look forward to seeing his movies later on.
This is one drama series I totally enjoyed seeing, every one episode was worth the watch I must say...yes I am a kdrama fan but this one went beyond my expectations...and as become my favorite kdrama series now. I like everything about the movie...the storyline which the viewers could relate to, the suspense, the message it has to pass which would keep you pondering for a while, the strong and wonderful performance of the the actors, the OSt is also beautiful. Although, I might not have agreed with a tiny thing or two but the best parts of the movie outshines any negative side of the movie.
I recommend this kdrama series for anyone looking to see something exciting and intriguing...if you don't mind the language of course...but you should know that it is subtitled. And for any kdrama lovers out there...you should watch this...you have to! lol.
