From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The fifth of those is Iasos Ancient City which is located in the Kıyıkışlacık Village of Milas.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan beşincisi Milas’ın Kıyıkışlacık Köyü’nde bulunan Iasos Antik Kenti'dir.
The day had not ended in the Ancient Theatre of Miletus. Regardless of the pouring rain, we decided to go to the Iasos Ancient City, located in the Kıyıkışlacık Village of Milas, about an hour away from Didim. We preferred the Didim-Milas road, which passes through the forest and villages. It may not make much sense to follow this route in a rainy weather, but it would be a different experience in a beautiful spring or summer evening. I didn't want to take pictures while on the way because it was raining.
Gün Milet Antik Tiyatrosu’nda bitmemişti. Yağan yağmura aldırmadan, Didim’e yaklaşık bir saat uzaklıkta, Milas’ın Kıyıkışlacık Köyü’nde bulunan Iasos Antik Kenti’ne gitmeye karar verdik. Ormanın ve köylerin içinden geçen Didim-Milas yolunu tercih ettik. Yağmurlu havada bu yoldan gitmek çok mantıklı olmayabilir, ama güzel bir bahar veya yaz akşamı bu yoldan gitmek ayrı bir deneyim olacaktır. Hava yağmurlu olduğu için yolda resim çekmek istemedim.
After a little bit troublesome journey, we arrived in Kıyıkışlacık Village in almost an hour. At the entrance of the village, there is an ancient museum that was used as a fish market during the Iasos Ancient City time. Iasos was already a fishing town as it is very close to the sea. Here was our first stop. Despite being a small place, it has preserved its ancient atmosphere. The first thing that caught my attention here was the coffin-shaped marble artifacts, which I thought were used as tombs. The second ones were square shaped marbles with embossed ancient Greek letters on them, which were used as a letter at that time. I think it must have been very difficult to transfer this much weight of marbles from one place to another in order to communicate with someone. Who knows to whom these letters were written. The progress of the technology is incredible today compared to those times.
Biraz sıkıntılı bir yolculuktan sonra hemen hemen bir saatte Kıyıkışlacık Köyü’ne varmıştık. Köyün girişinde Iasos Antik Kenti zamanında balık pazarı olarak kullanışmış antik bir müze var. Iasos denize çok yakın olduğu için zaten bir balıkçı kentiymiş. İlk durağımız burası oldu. Küçük bir yer ama antik havasını korumuş. Burda dikkatimi çeken ilk şey mezar olarak kullanıldığını düşündüğüm tabut şeklindeki mermer eserlerdi. İkincisi ise o zamanlar mektup olarak kullanılmış, kare şeklinde, üzerinde kabartma antik Yunanca harflerin olduğu mermerlerdi. Yani biriyle iletişime geçmek için bu ağırlıkta mermerleri bir yerden bir yere iletmek o zamanlar çok zor olsa gerek. Kimbilir kime yazılmıştı bu mektuplar. O zamanlara kıyasla teknolojinin bugün geldiği nokta inanılmaz.

About 2 minutes from the fish market by car, there is the Iasos Ancient City. First off all, entrance to the fish market and the ancient city is free. There are also restaurants by the sea, catty-corner from the ancient city. Kıyıkışlacık is a village where there is a small bay. After parking the car, we entered the ancient city. The rain had stopped. Iasos Ancient City is a small ancient city, but it was above my expectation. The Bouleuterion and South Stoas in the ancient city are very well preserved. We stopped here for 45 minutes, I took many photos again. I think Iasos Ancient City is worth a visit, especially when the weather is fine.
Balık pazarından arabayla yaklaşık 2 dakika ilerde ise Iasos Antik Kenti bulunuyor. Öncelikle şunu söyleyeyim, balık pazarına ve antik kente girişler ücretsiz. Burda ayrıca antik kentin çaprazında, denize sıfır restorantlar da var. Kıyıkışlacık küçük bir koyun olduğu bir köy. Arabayı park ettikten sonra antik kente girdik. Yağmur durmuştu. Iasos Antik Kenti küçük bir antik kent ama bekletimin üstünde çıktı. Antik kentteki Bouleuterion ve Güney Stoa’lar çok iyi korunmuş. Burda 45 dakika durduk, ben yine birçok fotoğraf çektim. Bence Iasos Antik Kenti ziyare etmeye değer, özellikle havanın güzel olduğu bir günde.
