From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The fourth of those is Ancient Theatre of Miletus.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan dördüncüsü Milet Antik Kenti’dir.
After walking inside the Temple of Apollo for about an hour, we set out for the Miletus Ancient City in Balat Village. It had started to cloud up and rain slightly. The distance between the Temple of Apollo and the Miletus Ancient City is about 25 minutes by car. When we had arrived at the entrance of Miletus Ancient City, it started to rain cats and dogs and we couldn't get out of the car. After the rain stopped, we got out of the car and walked to the ancient city. Miletus Ancient City is an ancient city established on a wide land. I couldn't see any protection fence or iron around it. If the guards don’t notice, one may sneak in :)
Apollo Tapınağı’nda yaklaşık bir saat gezdikten sonra Balat Köyü’nde bulunan Milet Antik Kenti’ne doğru yola çıktık. Hava yavaştan kapanmaya ve hafiften yağmur yağmaya başlamıştı. Apollon Tapınağı ile Milet Antik Kenti arası arabayla yaklaşık 25 dakika. Tam Milet Antik Şehir girişine vardığımızda bardaktan boşanırcasına yağmur yağmaya başladı ve arabadan çıkamadık. Yağmur dindikten sonra arabadan inip antik kente doğru yürüdük. Milet Antik Kenti geniş bir araziye kurulmuş bir antik kenttir. Çevresinde herhangi bir koruma çit veya demiri göremedim. Güvenlikler görmezse kaçak girebiliriniz belki : )
Guards stands in an open area at the entrance. You scan your ticket or museum card here. This ancient theater was the largest ancient theatre I had ever seen. I think it's bigger than Aspendos. We went up to the top of the ancient theatre, taking photos in the some parts of the ancient theatre. The view here was beautiful; however, since it started raining again, we could not see the ancient city behind and the Stoa where the water of Büyük Menderes River reached. I want to come here again one day in fine weather.
Girişte açık bir alanda güvenlikler duruyor. Bilet veya müze kartınızı burda okutuyorsunuz. Bu antik tiyatro da şu ana kadar gördüğüm en büyük antik tiyatroydu. Sanırım Aspendos’tan daha büyük. Antik tiyatronun belirli yerlerinde fotoğraflar çeke çeke antik tiyatronun en tepesine kadar çıktık. Burdaki manzara çok güzeldi; fakat, yağmur tekrar başladığı için arkada kalan antik şehri ve Büyük Menderes nehrinin sularının aktığı Stoa’yı göremedik. Buraya birgün güzel bir havada tekrar gelmek istiyorum.

In addition, there is the Miletus Museum at the entrance of the ancient city. You can enter there with the museum card. We visited the museum and took a few photos until the rain stopped. Sculptures and ruins unearthed during excavations in the Miletus Ancient City are exhibited in the museum. I think it's worth visiting.
Ayrıca, antik kentin girişinde Milet Müzesi bulunmaktadır. Buraya da müze kartıyla girilebiliyor. Biz yağmur durana kadar müzeyi gezdik ve birkaç fotoğraf çektik. Müzede Milet Antik Şehri'inde yapılan kazılarda çıkan heykeller ve kalıntılar sergilenmektedir. Gezmeye değer diye düşünüyorum.
