Waddesdon manor part III

So the weapons room was one of my favourites because the guy there was really engaged and told us a lot about the place. The people that work in the houses are all volunteers and some are more chatty and engaged than others but the ones that give you private insights make the rooms so much more interesting. The weapon room was actually collected by Alice the daughter of the Rothchild’s family.

These axes are genuine battle axes and the tassels are hardened meaning they saw blood in their lives!

This is a Weapon made from a turtle shell

This is a scolds bridle in the shape of a dog or a rabbit what do you think? I knew exactly what a scolds bridle was from the museum of magic and witchcraft. It was a metal device they put over women’s heads who spilled too many secrets and had loose tonges it had a little clamp inside that held the tongue down and was also just meant to be humiliating for the wearer.

This here was postbox they had several in the house and they actually got collected twice a day!

I loved these two little ornaments I’m pretty sure they were some kind of African ritual dolls but they didn’t have tags. I bet that one with the mouth bound holds some secrets.

These are hand painted leather ceilings which, were a huge job for the trust to repair and cost a lot of money!
