Heraklion fortress part one

So we were supposed to go into heraklion yesterday but it got cancelled so I just ended up getting on the bus and going in myself. I was a little bit nervous because I’m just one of those people that struggles a little bit with public transport in other countries, but at least in Europe now I get free data so I can use Google Maps etc and I actually ended up finding it very easy. In fact the buses are way way better here and way cheaper I couldn’t believe how nice they were with air-conditioning and massive seats. I’m trying to get better at just getting myself out there on the local public transport alone as I have friends that it’s no issue for at all just because they have done it for so many years. I think I’m a lot more interested in the culture than the rest of my party who are quite happy to stay around the pools. I can do that a little bit but after a bit I need to get out and explore. I actually learnt from this trip I can see why people like to travel alone. I feel I’ve had a great balance of company and alone time to explore. It’s nice to not have to compromise in any way and see everything you want to see at your own pace.

I didn’t really know what to see I know there is a temple of Knossos but I didn’t really have time to check that out as it’s a further bus or taxi ride and I only really had 2 hours till dark, so I just decided to have a little wander. I aimed for the harbour and ended up finding an old fortress that was only 4 euros to enter. I loved that everything like ther was so cheap. To see castle ruins in the Uk would literally cost about £11-£25 ! £3 seemed fantastic to go and see these places. I’ll do a lot more research into it for my video as a lot of the info was in Greek although they did have a bit of English translation up. The views from the top were amazing.

I then had a little stroll around some of Heraklion town before heading back , most of the town I did in video which; I’ll get around to making when back .
