Memories of New Year's Eve celebrations spent some time ago when I was still living in Italy, the Tyrrhenian Sea coast, which is nothing else than a part of the Mediterranean Sea that extends to the west of the Italian peninsula as a wedge between the islands of Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica, characterised by an incomparable beauty.
Calabria is a wonderful place not only from a natural point of view, where sea and land are harmoniously united, but also from an artistic, archaeological, architectural, gastronomic and musical point of view.
It is the favourite area in the south of Italy for family holidays. Places to visit and very quiet beaches, with very white sand where the stretch called Costabella on Costa degli Dei (Beautiful Coast or Coast of the Gods) stands out.
There are not too many beaches but they are very beautiful and quiet. Among the ones we were able to visit are Tropea and Capo Vaticano, undoubtedly the best and most visited because they have a spectacular panoramic view: from them you can see the whole Tyrrhenian coast.
But Pìzzo Càlabro, Briàtico, Zambròne, Parghèlia and Nicòtera are also pleasant and worth visiting.
It is worth noting that most of these beaches have an inhabited centre, villages that have remained untouched by time, with picturesque and well-kept historical centres that have maintained their own history without altering their external appearance too much.
The coast is a continuous alternation of reefs, beaches of fine white sand, clusters, small and picturesque beaches isolated from the rest, pure and crystalline water, a nature always alive and the sun, lord and master of the whole coast, which gives a special touch and character to the crops and to the character of the locals, always open and cordial.
The whole area has a millenary gastronomic culture as a result of the numerous populations that have inhabited it over the centuries.
For example, the so-called Tropea onion, a vegetable variety cultivated exclusively in this locality, thanks to the particular combination of sun and dry climate, is very famous and consumed all over Italy.

Tropea has a modern tourist harbour that connects it to Capo Vaticano and other coastal towns from where it is possible to admire a sea of almost transparent blue, surrounded by countless beaches of fine white sand from which you can enjoy wonderful panoramas.
The historical centre of Tropea deserves a separate comment, with the presence of numerous churches and cathedrals, such as the Norman, St. Francis of Assisi, Santa Maria della Neve and the Annunziata, to mention only the main ones.
It is incredible to think that in a relatively small inhabited place there are so many vestiges of the past, not only religious.
The narrow streets (vicoli) are another postcard of Tropea. As are the imposing portals at the entrances of some buildings and the balconies built by skilled craftsmen in the 700's that seem to fall over the sea in palaces belonging to the "noble" sector of society that hold numerous artistic treasures in their
