Pampang Cultural Village, Dayak Tribe

The province of East Kalimantan is not only global with its marine tourism, but the cultural wisdom of the Dayak tribe also has a magical power for tourists to spend time in this province in Kalimantan. Cultural tourism which has recently been in the public spotlight is the culture of traditional dances of the Dayak tribe centered in Pampang Dayak Village, Samarinda. This village has been a tourist attraction for a long time, especially for those who like cultural tourism as well as know the regional arts of the Dayak tribe. It's no exaggeration if Pampang Village is a cultural destination in East Kalimantan that has a different uniqueness. In this village, tourists can enjoy traditional dances typical of the Dayak tribe in the Dayak traditional house called Lamin Adat Pamung Tawai. This magnificent traditional house is full of beautiful Dayak carvings. Pampang Village itself has officially become a cultural village since 1991 and was inaugurated by the Governor of East Kalimantan at that time.

It stands to reason that Pampang Samarinda Dayak Village has been named one of the leading local tourism assets, because its existence is able to attract both local and foreign tourists. Administratively, the Pampang Cultural Village is located in Pampang Village, North Samarinda District, East Kalimantan Province.

To enjoy the unique culture of the Dayak tribe in Pampang village, tourists must travel 23 kilometers from downtown Samarinda. The trip must go through the Samarinda – Bontang axis road. The location of Pampang Village is on the left side of the main road before Sungai Baru Airport. From the signboard at the entrance to the Dayak Village area, tourists still have to travel a distance of approximately 1 kilometer to the location.

Traditional Dances and Traditional Houses
Routinely every week the local people of Pampang Village hold traditional Dayak dance performances. For tourists who want to enjoy this traditional dance, they can come on Sunday or the day before because this performance is only held every Sunday from 14.00 - 15.00 WITA. This traditional dance performance of the Dayak tribe is held in a traditional house called Lamin Adat Pamung Tawai. This traditional house is made of Ulin wood with decorations and carvings on almost all parts of the walls. This can be seen clearly from the main wall filled with Dayak carvings with the dominant black, white and yellow colors. Likewise, the supporting pillars of the house which are two meters in diameter are decorated with beautiful carvings. On the roof made of shingle wood, there are solid carvings in the middle of the roof and the corners.DSC_3190.JPG

Diversity of Typical Dances of the Dayak Tribe
The superior culture of Pampang Samarinda Dayak Village is dominated by traditional dances. Several types of dances can be enjoyed by tourists every Sunday, namely the Bangen Tawai dance, Hudoq, Kanjet Anyam Tali, Ajay Pilling, Kancet Lasan, Nyalama Sakai, Kancet Punan Lettu, and many more.

Uniquely, before one of the dances begins, the host will explain the meaning of the dance that will be held. For example, the Kanjet Anyam Tali dance which depicts differences in ethnicity, culture, nation and language but still one. All the dances held in Pampang Village involve all young and old alike. To be able to witness the cultural performance of traditional dances in Pampang Samarinda Dayak Village, visitors are charged IDR 40,000 per person. After enjoying the dance presentation, tourists can take pictures with the local natives (traditional dancers) by paying an extra Rp. 25,000 for several photos, for those who want to wear traditional Dayak clothes which can be rented from local residents at different prices. To take pictures with long-eared natives, a separate fee is charged.

Provinsi Kalimantan Timur tidak hanya mendunia dengan wisata baharinya, namun kearifan budaya Suku Dayak juga memiliki daya magis bagi wisatawan untuk menghabiskan waktu di salah satu provinsi di Kalimantan ini. Wisata budaya yang belakangan menjadi sorotan publik adalah budaya tarian adat suku Dayak yang berpusat di Desa Dayak Pampang Samarinda. Desa ini sekian lama menjadi obyek wisata terutama bagi mereka yang menyukai wisata budaya sekaligus mengenal seni daerah suku Dayak. Tak berlebihan jika Desa Pampang termasuk destinasi budaya di Kalimantan Timur yang menyimpan keunikan berbeda. Di desa ini wisatawan bisa menikmati tarian tradisional khas Suku Dayak di rumah adat Suku Dayak yang disebut Lamin Adat Pamung Tawai. Rumah adat yang megah ini penuh ukir-ukiran indah khas Dayak. Desa Pampang sendiri secara resmi menjadi desa budaya sejak tahun 1991 dan diresmikan oleh Gubernur Kalimantan Timur kala itu.

Aset Unggulan
Cukup beralasan jika Desa Dayak Pampang Samarinda dinobatkan sebagai salah satu aset unggulan wisata lokal, karena keberadaannya mampu menyedot wisatawan baik lokal maupun asing. Secara administratif Desa Budaya Pampang ini terletak di Desa Pampang, Kecamatan Samarinda Utara, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur.

Untuk menikmati keunikan budaya khas suku Dayak di desa Pampang, wisatawan harus menempuh perjalanan sejauh 23 kilometer dari pusat kota Samarinda. Perjalanan harus melalui jalan poros Samarinda – Bontang. Letak Desa Pampang berada di bagian kiri jalan poros sebelum Bandara Sungai Baru. Dari papan nama di pintu masuk menuju kawasan Desa Dayak, wisatawan masih harus menempuh jarak kurang lebih 1 kilometer menuju lokasi.

Tarian Adat dan Rumah Adat
Secara rutin setiap pekan masyarakat lokal Desa Pampang mengggelar pertunjukan tarian adat Suku Dayak. Bagi wisatawan yang ingin menikmati sajian tariaan adat tersebut bisa datang hari Minggu atau sehari sebelumnya karena pergelaran ini hanya diaadakan setiap hari Minggu dari pukul 14.00 - 15.00 Wita. Pertunjukan tarian adat Suku Dayak ini digelar di rumah adat yang disebut Lamin Adat Pamung Tawai. Rumah adat ini terbuat dari kayu Ulin dengan hiasan dan ukiran di hampir semua bagian dindingnya. Hal ini terlihat jelas dari dinding utama dipenuhi ukiran Dayak dengan warna hitam, putih, dan kuning yang dominan. Begitu juga dengan tiang penyangga rumah yang berdiameter dua meter dihiasi ukiran indah. Pada bagian atap yang terbuat dari kayu Sirap, terdapat ukiran kokoh ditengah atap dan sudut-sudutnya.

Keragaman Tarian Khas Suku Dayak
Budaya unggulan Desa Dayak Pampang Samarinda ini memang didominasi jenis tarian adat. Tercatat beberapa jenis tarian yang dapat dinikmati para wisatawan tiap hari Minggu yaitu tari Bangen Tawai, Hudoq, Kanjet Anyam Tali, Ajay Pilling, Kancet Lasan, Nyalama Sakai, Kancet Punan Lettu, dan masih banyak lagi.

Uniknya sebelum salah satu tarian dimulai, pembawa acara akan menjelaskan makna dari tarian yang akan digelar. Contohnya tarian Kanjet Anyam Tali yang menggambarkan perbedaan suku, budaya, bangsa, dan bahasa namun tetap satu. Semua tarian yang digelar di Desa Pampang ini melibatkan seluruh masyarakat tua maupun muda. Untuk bisa menyaksikan pergelaran budaya tarian adat di Desa Dayak Pampang Samarinda ini pengunjung dikenakan biaya Rp 40.000 per orang. Setelah menikmati sajian tarian, para wisatawan dapat berfoto bersama penduduk asli setempat (para penari adat) dengan mengeluarkan biaya ekstra sebesar Rp. 25.000 untuk beberapakali berfoto, bagi yang ingin mengenakan baju adat Suku Dayak yang bisa disewa dari penduduk setempat dengan harga yang berbeda. Untuk berfoto bersama penduduk asli bertelinga panjang dikenakan biaya tersendiri.
