The Venice Clock Tower

in travel •  2 years ago  (edited)

Venice is a very beautiful place. Not everyone thinks the same, I am not sure why. Some people do not find Venice attractive, they also find it dirty as some part of the canals have a little dirty smell. Honestly, I fell in love with this place. It is a beautiful city. Very charming, attractive and unique. When I landed in Venice, the first look of it made me fall in love with the place. It was like Love at first sight. We reached late in the afternoon, so the evening we decided to take the ferry taxi and take a glimpse of the place. Most of the attractions closes by 6. When we reached the spot the Bell Tower entry was still open, so we decided to make a visit.

I was in two minds to go or not, because I have had many wonderful top views and this I felt would have been just ok. But if I would have not gone, I would have surely missed out something very good. The views from the top were amazing. I called my mom back home to show her the place through the video call. She has not travelled much, so this is the way she can see the places with me.

On reaching the top this is the first view of the place I got, and then going around 360 degrees they just kept getting better.

And these bells had a beauty of their own.

After coming down we spent some time at the St. Mark's square. It is a buzzy lively place. The center of attraction in Venice. Everyone comes here. There are many souvenir shops and restaurants in this place since it's a tourist centric place. And the Gondola rides as well. We took the Gondola ride. It was the best moment of my life I can say. I loved it so very much, the memory is beautiful.

Last time I was there, the Yugoslav war broke out! Perhaps not related, but flights were cancelled, and just to add to the fun, a bus had an accident on the connecting bridge from Mestre and blocked the whole bridge. Was cold, damp, raining, and flooded - straight out of a film noir. I was there for a conference. Was interesting!

Ohh, that must have been very disappointing. I would have felt miserable missing out to see a new place :-)
We had a hot climate to face, it was really bad at times, as the heat was draining out the energy. But the places are so beautiful that I felt worth it.

Oh, I didn't "miss out" on anything - I arrived a few hours before the shitshow! lol. Met a few famous people, had a very good dinner and got lost down some of the twisty roads. Never assume anything runs parallel in the Venetian geometry ;-) Some of the conference took place at midnight, if I recall - the show must go on attitude, even if some guests were missing.
