Corfu is a small island on the northwest coast of Greece. Again it was a day visit while on our Cruise. It's a nice little island surrounded by rugged mountains and an attractive coastline. A charming and attractive little place and has some stunning beaches as well, though we did not get a chance to visit the beach. It is a nice and quiet little place but still if I compare it to the other places of Greece like Mykonos and Santorini this one scores less.
We had a day here. I wanted to see the local market area of this place and if anything else would be interesting. I got to know about the Museum of Asian Arts of Corfu. It sounded interesting so we decided to visit. I did anticipate that there would a lot of Asian influences in this place, but besides the Asian Art work there were other interesting artifacts also found in this place. A lot of antique furniture has been elegantly preserved in this place. The Museum is actually in the Palace of St. Michael and St. George in Corfu. So you can see the palace as well along with the musuem.
These are some parts of the palace which are kept open for public viewing
Look at this Dining Table Set. So very elegant
Some of the antique furniture of the olden times. If I would have had a big home I would have really liked to have furniture like this in my home.
The Museum part was interesting. I was fascinated to see how Asian culture has made it's way through different parts of the world. Places where you least imagine to see the Asian culture surprisingly holds some real treasures.
The Nataraja - Where Shiva is shown as the source of all movement within the cosmos, represented by the arch of flames
A Statue of Half Shiva and Half Parvati, representing the divine feminine and masculine energy within each one of us
A statue of Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped before starting any new work and is also considered to be obstacle remover.
Different forms of Lord Ganesha
This is a place depicting a Buddhist Prayer room
After watching the Museum we then headed to the City Center Market. It was almost similar like other Markets in the region of Mykonos and Santorini, except for the color part.
I bought some souvenirs like always, they are good memories to reflect back years later.
Just some random pictures in the market
Then it was time to grab something to eat as I was feeling hungry and the heat was also not making it comfortable. We selected a place just opposite the Sea side.
That was the end of our trip in Corfu
