After Zurich, Geneva is another city in Switzerland which is well populated. Since it lies on the southern tip of Switzerland which is closer to France it has a lot of French influence in the place and people here also widely speak French. It's the Financial Centre of Swiss. Some people say that Geneva is one of the safest places to live because most of the International Organizations are based here, like the WHO, UNHCR, WTO, Red Cross, International Labor Organization and many others. It is considered to be the safest place to live because there is no political instability or any type of terrorism or civil war ever happened in this place. Not sure how long that would go on. Overall Switzerland is considered to be a safe haven because the most influential and rich people live here or have a home in this place, so surely they are going to keep it safe under all circumstances.
The Lake Geneva is the most famous part of this City and it is the largest lake in Central Europe stretching upto 73 kms.
In the Lake Geneva is the Jet d'Eau (Water Jet) which again is a good visit. It is nothing so special about it, because there are much better water fountains in the world, but it has become like a symbol of Geneva and hence it is famous for tourist now to visit. The Saint-Pierre Cathedral is a place to visit, again nothing fancy about this Cathedral. The Cathedral is very simple and ordinary, the major attraction of this Cathedral is the roof top view which gives a complete view of the Geneva City. There is Jardin Anglais (English Garden) which is a good watch. But more then this Garden which is more of commercial I enjoyed visiting the Jardin Botanical Garden which is a little far from the main city center but worth a watch.
To start with we took a day pass and took a bus to the main sights of Geneva. The first place we visited was this Opera, but sadly the Opera was closed for public visit so we had to see it from outside only.
Opposite the Opera is a Park which was quite a busy one.
Don't know whose statue is this but looks like someone prominent since it was the center square.
From here we started walking towards the Saint Pierre Cathedral which was a 15 to 20 minutes walk passing through the old town
On the way was this site where the Cannons were showcasing the artillery material of Geneva.
We reached the Cathedral
As I mentioned there is nothing much fancy about this Cathedral but surely has very good vibes
We take a walk up to the roof top to get the top view of the city
Here we are
After this we visited the Jardin Botanical Garden which took a long time since the Garden is big and then from there to Lake Geneva where we spent the evening by the lake side sipping wine and enjoying the famous Cheese Fondue.
