A friend was talking about traveling and reminded me (as if I needed reminding) that I’ve been cooped up here in the house for almost 2 months now.
It’s too cold to go van camping (for me, anyway!)
I much prefer traveling in the warm weather. My van also tends to be cold-natured — does that mean we are a perfect fit? I like to think so.
My friend got my cabin fever all stirred up again!
I was reminded of my first car-camping trip to Wahoo Bay (photo above) back in April, 2021. I was still working full time at the local library, and dreaming of retiring later in the year. I had plans to hit the road. FREEDOM!
It was so hard to wait, though!
I knew a long weekend was coming up in April, and started planning just a weekend trip. I settled on Wahoo Bay. It sounded like fun already! The trip flashed through my mind as I read my friend’s words to me.
So I decided to share a couple of photos from that weekend. Oh, I almost forgot! I found an actual journal entry dated April 3, 2021:
“I’m sitting in my van at Wahoo Bay, near Wagoner, OK. The lake is peaceful and quiet. So calming.
Did I mention how quiet it is?
I don’t think I realized just how tied to technology I must be until I took this trip.
Occasionally, a boat will get near enough so that I hear someone’s voice. But not very often.
I think I’m experiencing (human contact) withdrawals. I may have to go through a drive-thru just for the human contact.”
This short trip taught me a few things about car camping:
#1 — I LOVE it even more than I thought I would!
#2 — My van is so cozy, it really feels like home when I’m there.
#3 — I don’t know how I lived stuck inside a building for so long!
Spring will be here soon, and I will be gone again. Flying down the road. I hope to see more of the east coast this time, wind around north and west and make my way back to Washington state in August where my oldest son Steve lives. I hope to write and take lots of photos!
