A memorable Trip to Vani Vilas Sagar, Chitradurga

My friend's wedding!

A few weeks ago an old friend of mine, Irshad called me to invite me to his wedding. Irshad and I were close friends back when we were doing our Master's at CMR Institute of Technology, Bangalore.

I usually do not attend weddings. I actually hate weddings. The last wedding I attended was my brother's wedding in December of 2021.

I did attend one or two weddings but I just went to congratulate the couple and came back.

But this was my close friend's wedding and I couldn't miss it.

So, I made plans. Took time to find trains and their timings so that I don't waste a lot of time waiting for the train or waiting for a connecting train to reach the destination.

Traveling in Varanasi to Mysore Train

The journey was easy and good as I took a AC compartment in the Varanasi to Mysore Train that arrived at around 4:35 AM on 15th of October 2022.

It was early morning so I went to sleep as soon as I boarded the train. The sleeper bed was comfortable and the sheets and pillow were clean.

I slept for around 5-6 hours and when I woke up it was close to 11 AM.

The train was passing through Ballari District and it was a beautiful scene because it has a lot of hills and it has several abandoned mines.

Let me share a few pictures.

You can see a lot of hills in the above photos. Most of these hills have valuable minerals, metals and precious stones.

These mines were over mined and since then most of these mines have been closed.

As we went ahead I saw a lot of hills and mountains and as we got closer to Chitradurga we saw more and more trees.

I reached the Chitradurga station sometime around 1:40 or so and then I had to catch a bus to a town called Hiriyur and then another bus to a village called Vani Vilas Pura.

Chitradurga is a historical city and it has a lot of tourists coming each year. The city has wide roads, fewer vehicles and less pollution.

It was around 3 PM when I reached the village and I went to my friend's home. His family welcomed me and we had lunch together. They were warm and welcoming.

I enjoyed the meal.

I'll write more about what happened next in another post tomorrow.

Overall it was an amazing experience and I will visit this town again to explore the untouched mountains and cristal clear waters in the dam.
