The great journey of route 40 by motorcycle from north to south: the eighth stage in Darwin's footsteps almost 200 years ago. [ESP/ENG]

I arrive in Mendoza crossing the route that some time back in the middle of the 18th century Charles Darwin crossed in his constant search for material for his book The Origin of Species and that took him to the extreme south of the continent .

Llego a Mendoza atravesando la ruta que alguna vez allá por mediados del siglo XVIII atravesó Charles Darwin en su constante búsqueda de material para su libro El Origen de las Especies y que lo llevó hasta el extremo sur del continente.

A plaque on a stone tumulus recalls the memory of the illustrious naturalist in Paramillos (Uspallata) where there is also the Petrified Araucarias Forest that bears his name.

There Darwin discovered and inventoried about a hundred petrified araucarias that were older than 200 million years.

I also cross the Inca Bridge, a place traveled by Jesuits, conquerors, Incas and also by the army of the Liberator José de San Martín. Darwin camped in a shelter in this area.

Una placa sobre un túmulo de piedras recuerda la memoria del ilustre nauralista en Paramillos (Uspallata) donde también está el Bosque de Araucarias Petrificadas que lleva su nombre.

Allí Darwin descubrió e inventarió cerca de un centenar de araucarias petrificadas que tenían una antiguedad superior a los 200 millones de años.

Atravieso también el Puente del Inca, lugar transitado por jesuitas, conquistadores, incas y también por el ejército del Libertador José de San Martín. En un refugio de esta zona acampó Darwin.

I begin to see a little movement, transit and human life.

After days of traveling for kilometers and kilometers and seeing only gravel, mountains and the characteristic elements of the Puna, my eyes (and my motorcycle) begin to get used to other landscapes.

Later in the Sanctuary of the Black Cross I take the opportunity to camp.

Comienzo a ver un poco de movivimiento, tránsito y vida humana.

Después de días enteros de recorrer kilómetros y kilómetros y ver solo ripio, montañas y los elementos característicos de la Puna mis ojos (y mi moto) comienzan a habituarse a otros paisajes.

Más adelante en el Santuario de la Cruz Negra aprovecho para acampar.

I take the opportunity to take a shower, renew my supplies, check the motorcycle, take some notes, take some photos and especially rest for the next day's journey.

Aprovecho para hacerme una ducha, renovar mis provisiones, controlar la moto, tomar algunos apuntes, sacar algunas fotos y especialmente descansar para la travesía del día siguiente.
