In our tradition when a baby starts sitting on his or her own, we have a ceremony for it and along with that we also celebrate this milestone of the little baby. My friend's baby who is now 8 months old and is in the process of doing his first things, his parents planned to do this ceremony for celebrating the moments of he starting to sit on his own. We call this ceremony Besna.
In this ceremony family and friends gather up to do a small ritual following with some celebrations. It's a joyous occasion for everyone. The baby is too small to understand and some people think it is not important to do these rituals since the baby does not understand anything. But I believe these rituals are important to do, they keep the traditions flowing from one generation to another, and just not that, when the baby grows up and looks at the pictures, they cherish these moments of their infant age. My Son, when he looks back at his pictures he always has a smile on his face and thanx me for doing these things for him. They feel special when they understand these things.
My friend is preparing for the ceremony.
5 or 7 sweets are kept and then baby is made to sit on these sweets or near the sweets.
Some traditional things for the ceremony.
Once the ceremony was completed, it was followed with refreshments for all the guests.
These traditions pass on from one generation to another and the customs and rituals are maintained. There is no hard and fast rule to do it, but we enjoy doing them so we keep it going.
