There is a ritual at my home to burn the coals to create the smoke out of it by adding the fragrance powder of oud called bakhoor.

My mother practices it on auspicious days like Fridays and other significant religious days.

As a child, it used to fascinate me a lot. It used to give us the feeling of some live practical performed in front of us by my mom. It was magical and mesmerizing.

As I grew up, I started enjoying the fragrance too. This bakhoor which creates a fragrant smoke when burnt is available in different flavours and fragrances in the market.

This fragrant smoke tends to give a very different and long-lasting impact of fragrance.
However, it will cause a little bit of air pollution due to excess smoke when overdone in one place especially where there is not much airflow or openings in the room.

This age-old method of fragrance is not just unique and interesting but it also has a few scientific benefits as it will kill all the germs and bacteria present in the air including mosquitos.

Other than this there are also some refined, soft, and subtle ways of burning this bakhoor which has evolved to avoid excess smoking.
