Squirrelbait's Tornado Encounter 05/21/24

in tornado •  6 months ago

May 21, 2024 Squirrelbait had a close encounter with a tornado. Iowa got hit again. Thankfully our town was not heavily damaged and no one was hurt. I was outside with Hubby when it suddenly appeared. Sirens were not going off. The tree in our front yard came down thankfully not on the house!!!! I just had an urge to go out front and film and this is what happened......
Seriously, I cut nothing from the beginning of this video........

Here's the folks a block down the road.......

They are all okay.

We heard that 2 cars were flipped over at the local gas station.

I was pleased at the way Hubby and I communicated and handled this situation. We were calm. Concerned but calm. We behaved like a team. We had a prior designated spot in the basement and plan of action for such an occasion. As you saw, I followed protocol and he did not right away.

I plan on posting an After Action Report under the Prepping Community. It is good to review and see any mistakes made, things we could have done better, things we did well, and any lessons learned. What is your analysis? How did we do and what lessons do you think we learned? What if anything should we do differently if this were to happen again but worse?

As you may know the town of Greenfield got decimated just like the town of Minden earlier this month. Here's drone footage from our local news.....

That tornado was an EF3

Hubby counted 7 tornado warning boxes last night in central Iowa. We are very very thankful!!!!!!!!

Yikes, well at least you got some footage! Glad you made it okay. Too bad about the tree.

I'm glad it's down. Now I do not have to worry about it. So thankful it damaged nothing. Not even the sidewalk! Amazing! The crew finished cutting it up and hauling it away. They did a good job too.

Glad to see you guys are safe!

Thanks. Tornado season is not over until the end of June. Hopefully things will calm down. Unless weather has been weaponized against the midwest. It has been just crazy here

Glad to hear you're ok, hunni (and hubby).

I did NOT have beans last night, so don't be looking at me.

LOL.
It's been wild here for sure. Not over yet either. Tornado season goes til the end of June the Tree Clearing Guy told me yesterday.
