For people who make their bread from the soil or who are somehow connected to the soil, rain is abundance. Abundance brings abundance and abundance is important for families to make a comfortable living. Whenever there was a famine year, it coincided with periods of little or no rain.
We know that water is vital for human life. If anyone still does not understand this, depriving himself of water for a while will help him to understand the importance of water. After all, one calamity is better than a thousand pieces of advice.
Since we realise the value of what we have better when we lose them, the importance of the values we have today will not be clear enough no matter what words we use to explain them. For example, we realise the value of our loved ones when we lose them, but it is too late and we cannot turn back the clock.
There is no guarantee that the rains will renew themselves in a continuous cyclical movement. As of today, we may enter a dry period that will affect the whole world. It may not rain for years. I do not want to produce disaster scenarios here, but all these have happened in limited regions in the past years. Dry seasons have caused human beings to have difficulties in producing the food they need. Agricultural areas could not be utilised sufficiently. The whole world did not feel it too much because its impact was in limited areas/regions/countries, but it will feel it a lot when it happens in many places at the same time. And when this happens, it may be too late for most people.
None of the resources on and under the earth are unlimited. Water is no exception. The increasing world population causes the resources to be depleted faster and nothing is done other than a few verbal warnings about the sparing use of the depleting resources.
You have surely heard words such as do not waste water, use water sparingly, plant trees for future generations. And you have probably given your approval, but what did you do about the economical use of water afterwards? Did you wash the dishes with less water? Did you stay under the shower less? Do you think that the raindrops that provide the water cycle will do their job properly 24/7?
In times of short-term drought, people of many faiths pray for rain. Is this because they really appreciate rain and therefore water? Others look to science for help. They want inventions that will gather the rain clouds together and leave the water density to gravity. I don't think so, as soon as the first grains of rain start to fall on the earth, everyone will go back to their usual way of thinking.
For years we did not realise the value of living together and being able to do our daily activities. A simple covid process taught us a great lesson in a short time. We do not learn from short-term and limited droughts to understand the value of rain. We need a more comprehensive lesson, but we need to know that when that lesson is learnt, millions, maybe billions of lives will end. Do not interpret this only as human life. Including all other living things and plants!
We can ignore the statements of scientists predicting that there may be water wars in the future today, but what about tomorrow!
Rain is a blessing of all kinds! Let's appreciate it and live in the abundance it will provide.!
