The Seventh Seal, a 1957 movie by Ingmar Bergman, is one of my favourite films of all time. One of the central plots of the film is the protagonist, knight Antonius Black, challenging the personification of Death to a game of chess when Death comes to take his life.
Losing, Antonius tries to literally cheat Death by disrupting the play of the game and moving the pieces around. It turns out that Death cheats, too.
