Unveiling the Cause of Can Depression Cause Memory Loss

There are many people out there who do not know the truth about "what can depression cause memory loss?" This is unfortunate because the symptoms of depression can and do affect a person's ability to think, reason, remember, focus, and even think clearly. In fact, it is estimated that at least 15% of all people suffering from depression will experience some sort of memory loss as well. There are several reasons why this occurs, but one of the most common is due to the chemicals that are present in those "depressed" brains.

There are several types of brain chemicals that are present in those that are depressed or have been through traumatic experiences in life. One of these chemicals, called serotonin, is responsible for regulating mood, sleep, appetite, sex drive, and appetite. Another chemical, known as dopamine, is also responsible for those feelings that come with excitement or pleasure. Neurotransmitters such as epinephrine and norepinephrine are responsible for the transmission of impulses throughout the body. There are also chemicals like GABA, which help control the excitability of the brain and allow a person to remain calm. There are numerous levels of these chemicals in the brain and when these levels are reduced, things can start to malfunction.

It has long been known that the lack of brain activity is what leads to memory loss, but did you know that there is more than one type of brain activity that can be disrupted in those that are depressed? Think back to when you first fell down or had an accident. Even if you were lucky enough to stay conscious, the brain activity involved was minimal. This is because there was nothing pushing your body to move or react to that event. You just slid into a state of unconsciousness or lapses of thought.

Did you know that when you learn something new, you tend to retain that memory much better? The reason for this is that it requires less effort on the part of your brain to process the information. When you suffer from depression, you have a much smaller brain with a lot less memory. As these brain functions decline, the person finds it much harder to remember things.

It is natural for you to think about everything that happened during the time that you were depressed. It is hard to think about how you could have prevented those times from occurring. However, you have to remind yourself that things happen for a reason and that you can do something about them. That is why you might find that you are having a hard time remembering things that happened while you were depressed.

If you were asked if a person could stop depression, you might wonder what would be the best method for them to use. There are many different therapies available and each one works differently for different people. However, if you are suffering from depression, you should consider learning how to unset any negative thoughts that might be preventing you from achieving your goals. This may mean learning a new hobby or finding someone to talk to who can help you see the world from a different perspective. It can also mean making an effort to spend time with other people who are going through the same problems you are facing.
