Zakat is one of the fifth pillars of Islam. Every independent, mature Muslim man and woman receives a certain portion of their income and property each year, if it exceeds the prescribed limit (nisab amount) of Islamic law, then the rule of distribution among the poor and needy is called zakat. Generally, 2.5 per cent (2.5%) of the defined boundary assets have to be distributed at the end of the year. In the fifth pillar of Islam, Hajj and Zakat are only conditional on the fact that they are obligatory for the wealthy. It is to be noted that zakat is obligatory on a person only if the amount is calculated and then zakat becomes obligatory on him, that is, it is obligatory to pay zakat. The word Zakat has been mentioned 32 times in the Holy Qur'an
