Is life expectancy decreasing due to technology?

We benefit from technology. We are able to accomplish a wide range of tasks in a short period of time. We can send emails in a matter of seconds, engage in real-time video chats for a short while, and make inexpensive real-time phone calls, but one issue that begs to be answered is: Are these new technologies shortening our lives?

However, how? We are producing new inventions every day and improving at everything quickly. Our longevity is being shortened by these technologies because we are accustomed to needing things done faster than ever before—possibly in a matter of seconds.

The investigation into human focus

You're not alone if you've ever found it difficult to concentrate on one task without pausing to check your messages or post on social media. According to Microsoft, the typical human's ability to focus—that is, our capacity to successfully concentrate on a single task—has recently declined below that of goldfish.

This certainly feeds into our concerns about the harm that the constant barrage of online networking and messaging is causing to us—and more especially to younger generations. Regardless, these numbers could be misleading. Regarding something specific, the study doesn't go into enough depth on the goldfish's or people's capacity to look past the figures on the page Microsoft took the data from.

The Brain of a Human

More importantly, our minds are adaptable structures that constantly rearrange and refocus our cognitive abilities to fit the needs of the natural world. The cutting edge may therefore force our position to shift in focus, even though the internet world is neither shocking nor really reason for concern. However, some argue that in a society increasingly full of distractions, we should exercise caution in maintaining control over our attention.

Thinking about consideration may be incredibly uncomfortable, and how it is approached has a big influence on the results. For this reason, among the most tenacious and active study areas in brain science, consideration stands out: in the last ten years alone, more than 1,200 publications have been published on the subject.

Even if the report's figures pass some scrutiny, it is still illogical to apply them to any situation other than the one for which they were intended, regardless of the methodology used to gather the data. As the paper suggests, we should use them extensively in all aspects of our life.

Dispersed relevant research, Examining how modern innovation affects our cognitive abilities reveals important things to think about. In any event, it shows that attentional skills have advanced despite widespread belief. For example, continuous video game players have been found to have better attentional capacities than non-players; non-players who started playing computer games also started to exhibit comparable improvements.
