Future of technology

This is only an introduction post to my new topic; the question is - will a technology in general assist us in the future or are we are about to implode into ourselves because of it?

It is a very hard question, isn't it. But, as far we can remember in a human history, the technology usually assisted us and was always an integral part of a human civilization. There was always an apocalyptical prophets, naysayers and people who would rather we remain at the stage of the fire and shovel... because we somehow are the plague of the world.
I doubt that we can even think in terms of zero technology, because we create it without even thinking about it. Our thought process was always how to make things easier, and how to evolve to a point where we no longer need to think outside of the frame of the technology.
Still there is a slight indication that the technology became a prison of a sort for some, as they are unable to adapt or to evolve together with the new trends. These individuals are not a part of this question, but ones that are born in the technology, internet, social networks... how would they evolve, if the evolution is even possible from this point onwards....
