A Day in the Life of a Digital Nomad: Data Drama

in techlife •  5 months ago

Another day, another tech challenge.

After a late night indulging in Fanta, snacks, and laptop time, I woke up this morning ready to start fresh with a refreshing shower and a delicious breakfast. With breakfast out of the way, I turned my attention back to the tedious chore of formatting my external drives, picking up where I left off last night. My trusty 512GB USB, with its glacial formatting speed, is testing my patience. It's like watching paint dry, but with less visual interest.

To add insult to injury, my touchpad decided to play rebel last night and is now refusing to cooperate with my three-finger gestures. I'm stuck navigating with keyboard shortcuts, which is about as convenient as using a spork to eat soup. Here's hoping a simple reboot and update will restore order to my digital world.

As the day wears on, it's becoming clear that this data organization project is a bigger beast than I anticipated. Once the USBs are formatted, I need to tackle backing up my external SSDs and migrating them to a more suitable file system. The search for the perfect file system for my larger SSD is proving to be a rabbit hole. F2FS is out due to its vulnerability to power cuts, and I'm unsure about ext4. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My goal is to create a clean, organized system where my important files are safe and accessible. I'm also considering my phone as an external drive to maximize space and minimize clutter. After all, a minimalist is always looking for ways to multitask and optimize their belongings.

Side note: The sun sets incredibly early here near the equator. Locals can't fathom having daylight past 9 pm! The photo gives you a glimpse of my workspace last night.

Wish me luck as I continue this digital deep dive. I'll keep you updated on my progress (or lack thereof).
