Educación vs Experiencia

I recently had to retire from work, very upset. I was about to quit, luckily my pretty wife calmed me down. The next day I showed up for work at the normal time and all happened as if nothing had happened the day before.

It turns out that, after thirty years of working in the same place, the human resources manager calls me to “update my level of studies.”

-Well and what do you think I have changed-, I said,

I am working all the time, I have not even had time to go to church and not to say to go on vacation, those are only for the rich.

When I was a bit calmer, he told me that there was a vacancy for a production manager because the current one was about to retire, that I had the necessary experience and that they would support me to finish my engineering level.

What engineering? I only studied until midle school, I told him. Too bad, if I only had high school they would support me to do engineering. One more chance that I miss because I didn’t go to high school.

Already being in that I started to think. If I have the necessary experience and I can solve the production problems that would arise, why then I need an engineering bachelor. Besides, I’m over fifty years old, I don’t think studying will be of much use to me after all.

Not to mention, that “opportunity” was not for me. But I’m still going to find a way to finish high school just to show them that I can.

One is never to old to stop learning. My grandmother finished her high school in her 50's. And she did it for herself, not for work. She had a great paying job that she retired from not long after she got her diploma.

I applaud your resolve to further your education, but never believe learning is for young people.
