I don't like movies about heroes with superpowers that appear after being bitten by an insect, coming from outer space with an innate ability, being covered in armor or for other reasons. It's not because of the process of becoming a hero or the powers they have, but because the endings are almost the same. The superhero who always helps the good always triumphs over evil.
Why watch a movie with the same ending? As someone who watched the 2023 movie Blue Beetle, which has a similar story, it is both strange and self-contradictory for me to ask this question. Nevertheless, I have my own reasons and I can explain them. Of course, because of a friend's insistence that we watch it together, and considering that I had two extra hours to spare, I was in favor of this request.
Leaving the expanded universe behind and with its own unique storyline, Blue Beetle also marks the birth of a new superhero. Coincidence, which plays an important role in the birth of new superheroes, also plays a role here, as Jamie Reyes (played by Xolo Mariduena) becomes a superhero by coincidence.
Jamie, who until then had lived an ordinary and downtrodden life, suddenly becomes the favorite of the whole family. I'm used to these kinds of movies having a social message because they emphasize who the superhero will be on the side of. In this respect, Blue Beetle does not distinguish itself from the others and follows the same line...
...and it's almost certain that there will be sequels, just like in the other movies! The last scene screams that this movie doesn't end here. Movies with superheroes in them have become ordinary for me and I said at the beginning of the article that I don't like them.
The only thing I liked about the movie was the repeated emphasis on family as a strength, not a weakness. Most superheroes become lonely for different reasons because they don't reveal their weaknesses to their enemies, but in Blue Beetle, the strength that comes from family is well adapted to the story.
I think people who like Spider Man, Iron Man, etc. will also like Blue Beetle. I think there is both a good and a bad side to revealing the hero rather than leaving too many mysteries about the new hero created. The good thing is that you don't have too many questions, the bad thing is that the lack of mystery reduces the flavor of the movie. I wish everyone who will watch the movie a good time.
