voluntarily provide

Scripture is replete with references to the spirit of giving cheerfully rather than under duress. The Lord commanded individuals with a giving heart and a moved spirit to take part in a seasonal freewill offering. God's followers had a unique chance to help a project that the Lord had started. This voluntary donation, willingly made to the Lord for His glory, was not restricted to monetary contributions but might include anything valuable that individuals of all ages could offer. It is an honor to contribute freely to God from a grateful heart.

Do you offer freely or do you look for compensation? Every time I put in time or effort on a project or collaborate with others, I have to ask myself that question. I make the error of associating my worth and significance with the results. When I reached my 40s, this became clear. As a husband, father, and leader, I prayed and searched for younger men to spend time with and support them in their spiritual journeys. I gained knowledge from them in the process, and they gained knowledge from me. I also felt obligated to follow through on our discussions since, well, the elder man should lead by example, right?

I met a young and coming business leader who was devoted to the Lord and his family, intelligent, and full of energy. He asked me to hang out with my other friends and to spend time with him. We enjoyed going on silent retreats together, having supper with our wives, and conversing two or three times a week. His marriage strengthened, his business prospered, he became a better father, and his religion deepened. He abruptly decided to end our relationship after a year together and only gave us calls when he was in need. I was first quite taken aback and perplexed. Did I do anything to let my young friend down? Have I becoming boring? Will others who are familiar with us believe I failed?

Eventually, when we discussed our distance from one another, I found out that while he was thankful for our time together, he had moved on to other interests, friendships, and ambitions. Holding relationships, job, finances, and whatever else I'm inclined to control with an open hand is what I've learnt, and what I continue to learn. By God's grace, withstand the need to influence results and, above all, let go of trying to influence the individual.

Living a generous life means giving freely. Giving freely is offering our time, money, and knowledge without anticipating anything in return. He granted me license to inquire about results if, naturally, someone requests accountability to alter specific behaviors, such as becoming more intentional with his family. However, we offer freely, leaving the outcome up to God. First and foremost, our gift is to God, then to the individual or organization we assist. God is in charge of both people and things. Success is measured by his favor and blessing. Thus, to give freely is to relinquish control, let go, and have faith in God for the results.
