I know they photos would be garbage, since I didn't have the correct equipment, but I went out anyway. I had to wait till around 22:45, when the moon had risen sufficiently, before going out to catch a view. I don't have any view of the horizon where I live, and the concrete jungle obscures all the low skies, so I must have missed the most spectacular part of the full moon event.
Anyhow, what I did see was still quite amazing. I tried taking some photos all zoomed in, but the light pollution in London is just terrible for these kinds of things.
I was still in awe though. I'm always amazed how vivid the moon can be when the sky is clear like it was yesterday. I felt a hint of envy, maybe even jealousy, for those living in the countryside and observing the view, particularly those with a view of the horizon. Mountain dwellers, seaside dwellers and the like. Even those in high rise buildings in the city would have had a magnificent view as long as there wasn't another high rise building in the way.
When I sometimes think how the ancients were able to chart the sky as well as they did without the benefit of telescopes, I remember that they had zero light pollution. This meant the sky was crystal clear and they would have felt a part of the cosmos in a way that we can probably never experience today.
So, even though I got a bunch of rubbish photos, I still appreciated the experience and stood there for minutes just staring up into the night's sky. A bunch of passersby, that were apparently oblivious to what was going on, looked at me like I was a lunatic or something.
Peace & Love,
Ade
hahaha, yes, many people who do not appreciate the beautiful details, think that one is crazy for wanting to enjoy them.
The good thing is that you were able to enjoy that bright moon yesterday. On the other hand, I could only see its reflection, the sky was cloudy but the clouds were somewhat thin because you could see that behind it was the very bright moon, you could only see its brightness and even though we did not see the moon, its appearance was good shine there in the sky behind the cloud cover.
oh I almost forgot to tell you, that the photos turned out well, especially the first one, it's as if you had caught the moon in the middle of something.
I'm really glad the sky was clear yesterday. We never get to see these things here because of the constant clouds; eclipses, meteor showers etc. Always cloudy :)
