A New Beginning

Sun rays colored the sky in shades of orange and pink as Sarah stepped out of her grandmother's small cottage. Willow Creek, with its familiar charm, was home. She had sorely missed the silence of the village, the soft whisper of the breeze through the leaves, and the appearance of Ember, the fox she was so fondly accustomed to.
As she makes her way through the village, there was a kind of unsettling feeling inside her that made her question herself. Something was not right. The once alive streets seem lifeless, and most shops were shut. A knot started forming inside her stomach because she really hastened toward the forest where she last saw Ember.

The forest was eerily quiet. No birds sang their morning songs; no leaves rustled as Ember moved under them. A heavy silence seemed to weigh in the air. Sarah called out for Ember, her voice echoing through the trees. But there was no response.
A wave of desolation washed over her. Where could Ember have disappeared to? Had something happened to her? Sarah searched relentlessly, her heart pounding in her chest. And then at the setting of the sun casting long shadows upon the floor of the forest, she found a small abandoned burrow.
Inside, curled in a ball, was Ember. She was frail-looking, her eyes dull and absolutely lifeless. Sarah gently picked her up, really worried. She took Ember back to the cottage where she nursed her back to health.
Days turned into weeks, and with the nursing care of Sarah, Ember slowly began to recover. Her fur regained its sheen and once again, mischief sparkled in those eyes. As the fox grew stronger, Sarah realized that it was not over for her to spend any more time in Willow Creek. This serene village had found a new purpose in protecting Ember and ensuring that this safe haven for wild animals remained a haven for the future.
