The Gentle Knock Part 2

In the morning my mind was made up, I picked up my flute and left the house, heading to the village square to practice with the band. Anayo was yet to arrive, and we needed to practice for the last time before the main event. I was asked to play the lead since Anayo who was originally the lead flutist was yet to come. I played so well that before Anayo arrived I was asked to play the lead by the band leader Ozoemena. Anayo was furious, and he refused to play at all if he won’t be given back his lead position, he wanted the glory all to himself.
I played solo that day and I played it better than the past flutists in my village considering the praise I got from the villagers, even Ozoemena said he had never heard anyone handle the flute the way I did. For me it was just another day of playing my flute but for mama and papa it was their proudest moment. Going home that day after the music festival I remembered Mama’s words “Don’t see yourself anything less than yourself.” And I was happy.
