Hi Friends,
The family went to go visit my wife’s parents so I had a nigh to myself recently. That meant one thing - time for a steak!
I found out a local grocery store that had porterhouse steaks on sale for $6 per pound, which is a great deal. I went there and the only ones they had left were 3 giant ones, so a giant steak it was!
This steak weighed in at 2.8 pounds, which is 45 ounces, lol. I could not finish it, so I had left overs the next day for lunch.
I normally grill 16 ounce steaks on the grill for about 9-10 mins and go off my gut feeling so this was a much more complicated grilling - it ended up taking 26 minutes to get the steak to an internal temperature of 130 degrees, which is a medium rare, but I had to use a meat thermometer to check it. I had to use some indirect heating too so that I didn’t char put he steak too much... Here is what the inside looked like:
The steak was so thick that the texture was way different - it almost had the consistency of prime rib, which I will never complain about as that is one of my favorite cuts.
Thanks for coming by today,
Brian
