Signs of Spring — In More Ways That One!

in spring •  9 months ago

Earlier today, I spotted a few flowering daffodils, after what has been a very long and cold winter, or so it seems.

Of course, "a cold winter" can mean very different things to different people.

Cold Weather

Around here, we did have the coldest winter in 60 years, from a purely meteorological perspective.

In February, we got a good snowfall, accompanied but a week of very cold days that even made it into minus territory on the Fahrenheit scale. That's -18C, for you metric folks. Might not sound like a lot if you live in central Canada or Russia, but for a part of the world where people often freak out if they have to scrape frost off their car windshield, it is cold.

And it does look like we lost a couple of our trees — eucalyptus — and several of our bushes that are not hardy to those sorts of temperatures.

Cold Money

Meanwhile, it was also a rather "cold winter" for our personal economics.

There's something unpleasant about feeling like you are caught in a cycle where doing the same amount of work results in less income, and doing more work results in the same income as before... all while the cost of living is going nowhere but up.

Of course, the "official sources" lie about how much the cost of living is rising.

A box of spaghetti noodles going from $0.99 to $1.79 is not "8% inflation."
A package of butter going from $2.59 to $4.49 is not "8% inflation."
A bag of dog food going from $9.98 to $14.98 is not "8% inflation."

The list is long.

Cold Hobbies

As a result, my available time for "diversions" like blogging has also been having "a cold winter."

I haven't really been working nearly as much on my art projects as I once did. They don't make money, so I can afford to. It's a simple piece of math.

"Hopium" doesn't work as a method of payment for a bag of gorceries!

I have somewhat neglected this blog, as well as a number of others. I actually came here with the intention of posting a few times, but the BeBlurt front end — which is my preference — appeared to be out of commission.

So, I turned around and left, without leaving a word. Looks like it's back, now!

Crypto Spring...?

Seeing the daffodils earlier did afford me a moment of hope. They also reminded me of the emerging uptrend in the cryptosphere.

Could it be that we are actually easing into the first cautious moments of a 4-year bull market cycle?

2013, 2015, 2021... 2025?

If it really is, we might have 12-18 months brighter days ahead!

NOTE: This is NOT "Investment Advice!" Do your own research!

Winter tends to make people tired, depressed and wary. Frankly, I am very ready for some brighter days ahead.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!

We can but hope that the punters are right! As for spring in just the nature around us, I am very ready for that!

We are getting some nice + 10 and + 15 celsius days up here in Northern Ontario … very unusual.
