En los artículos anteriores he mencionado con frecuencia al referirme a las competencias del día domingo, a la palabra "mini-carreras" o su equivalente en inglés Sprint Race o una mezcla de ambas "mini-race", celebradas el día sábado en substitución a las tradicionales sesiones de clasificación para determinar la parrilla de largada en cada carrera de Fórmula 1.
Ya desde antes que la pandemia del coronavirus golpeara duramente todos los estamentos de la sociedad a inicios del 2019 -y el ámbito deportivo no fue una excepción, al contrario, fue uno de los más perjudicados, la FIA en lo que respecta a la Fórmula 1 había decidido de introducir algunas innovaciones en el reglamento a los efectos de "reavivar" una categoría que estaba cayendo en la monotonía de un monopolio deportivo que en ese momento tenía como abanderado Mercedes con Hamilton, como antes lo había hecho Ferrari con Schumacher.
Para evitar estos largos predominios que terminaban por apagar el entusiasmo de todos los fans que giran alrededor de este business colosal, la FIA había decido de modificar el reglamento, por un lado, cuyos efectos los estamos viendo en tiempo real en las últimas carreras, especialmente en lo que hace a su faz aerodinámica, y modificar también las etapas previas a la clasificación para el día domingo.
Y en este aspecto la principal modificación se llamó Sprint Race, que este año incluso otorgan puntos a los ocho primeros clasificados. Una especie de mini-carrera (20 vueltas) con puntos.
Hecha la salvedad del tema que voy a compartir con todos los usuarios de esta Comunidad, me enfoco en seguida a desarrollar el mismo y explicar en que consiste.

To avoid these long dominations that ended up dampening the enthusiasm of all the fans that revolve around this colossal business, the FIA had decided to modify the regulations on the one hand, whose effects we are seeing in real time in the last races, especially in terms of aerodynamics, and also to modify the pre-qualifying stages for Sunday.
And in this aspect the main modification was called Sprint Race, which this year even give points to the first eight classified. A sort of mini-race (20 laps) with points.
With the exception of the topic that I am going to share with all the users of this Community, I will now focus on developing it and explain what it consists of.

Las Sprint Race es un nuevo formato de carreras aprobado en la temporada 2021 y que tuvo su primera prueba en el Gran Premio de Gran Bretaña. En ese momento se planificaron tres Sprint Race en el 2021 y lo mismo se hizo para el 2022. La primera de este año fue el fin de semana pasado en el circuito de Imola, en el Gran Premio de Emilia-Romaña (Italia).
En realidad, las sesiones de pruebas del fin de semana que se articulaban en entrenamientos libres los viernes y sábados por la mañana, con pruebas de clasificación el sábado por la tarde, fueron substituidas por una sesión de entrenamientos libres el día, viernes y otra el sábado por la mañana que determinarán la parrilla de largada de la llamada Sprint Race generalmente a disputarse el día sábado por la tarde.
Además de determinar la parrilla de largada de la carrera del domingo, en el 2021 estas mini-carreras, de una extensión máxima de 100 kms o 20 vueltas, otorgaban puntos a los tres primeros en el 2021, situación que fue modificada para el 200 cuando la FIA cambia el reglamento y decide otorgar ocho puntos del primero al octavo clasificado.

Estas mini-carreras del sábado le han permitido, por ejemplo, a Max Verstappen recuperar mucho del terreno perdido involuntariamente a causa de los dos abandonos sufridos a lo largo de estas primeras cuatro carreras.
Es decir, a pesar de no haber puntuado en dos de ellas, a diferencia de Leclerc, que ha puntuado en las cuatro, su diferencia con el monegasco en el mundial de pilotos no es tan grande y puede recuperar los puntos perdidos en un futuro inmediato.

Con este simple ejemplo trato de demostrar como estas mini-carreras puede compensar eventuales abandonos o perdida de puntos y hacer el mundial más competitivo y justo.
Por otro lado, si el piloto tiene la suerte y la capacidad de encontrarse en un fin de semana inspirado como Verstappen en Imola, puede obtener una recompensa de 34 puntos si hace la vuelta más veloz (25 por la carrera + 1 por la vuelta rápida + 8 por haber ganado la Sprint Race) para replantear la clasificación general con mayores expectativas.
Pero si bien estamos haciendo los ejemplos mirando a la clasificación en ambos mundiales referida a los pilotos con posibilidades de ganar, no es menos importante para aquellos pilotos cuyas expectativas al inicio de temporada no eran ni siquiera comparables con el luminoso presente que viven, por ejemplo, de Haas y Alfa Romeo que con Magnussen y Bottas obtuvieron uno y dos puntos respectivamente solamente en la Sprint Race.
