Splinterlands | The Game and Me | TLDR
Splinterlands was originally launched as Steemmonsters. Why? Because it was first launched on the Steem blockchain and the initial cards were all monsters that would be battling out. So, it was called Steemmonsters. It was launched in 2018 and despite me being on Steem and Hive later, I only started playing in 2020. That’s the greatest regret of my life.
Why is it a regret? Because I witnessed the launch of the governance token – SPS – while I was still a newbie and all those who played from the beginning ended up being literal millionaires. But the good part is there are so many opportunities to start with only $10 and still build a great gaming portfolio that it is mindboggling. Now you know why even after four years, I am totally sold on Splinterlands. Today, Splinterlands is on the Hive blockchain and doing really well, despite the extended never-ending cryptoverse slowdown over the last few years.
And remember, each card in Splinterlands is an NFT even when NFT was not a thing at all. There is so much to know and learn that one article is not enough. Let me give a small blurp in the next section to give you a sense of Splinterlands.
Have a read.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

How About Some Tips? | Yes, Let’s Dive Straight In
I am assuming all readers by now know how to battle in the game. If that is something you already know, read on.
Join A Guild
I cannot emphasize enough about this part. You already know that I started late to play the game and then I wasted another three years to enter the brawls in the Guild — such a waste of precious time.
What are Brawls? The same as ranked battles that you play normally, but within the Guild, at a designated time when all of your Guild Members fight together against another Guild. Why do I recommend it? Because you win merits and with merits you can buy Gladius Packs. And hear this – there is no other way to buy Gladius packs or the cards therein. You would have heard of some of the cards like Quora Towershead. So, why not battle in a Guild? You will at least make new friends.
Also, now there are summoners that allow us to get our Gladius cards into normal battles. That's a double win. So, get going, join a guild, and start brawling!
P.S. - My Guild doesn't have openings, but there are many looking for players. Or you can start one yourself with friends.
Keep Watching and Grasp Opportunities | Chaos Legion Pack on Hive Engine Is the Goody Bag Right Now
What am I talking about? There are numerous opportunities in and around Splinterlands. You could find a handsome deal on a card of your choice on the secondary market or you can find enough and more friends to share some cool cards.
But here’s the best of them all. The chaos legion packs are available at a throw away price of $0.9 per pack (five cards in a pack) on Hive Engine. This is a steal especially that everyone is focused on the Rebellion packs at $5. Besides, Chaos packs themselves were around $5 when they were selling, so now it is the owners selling on Hive Engine. Go there and grab some packs at less than one-fifth the cost.
See what I mean? Go on then. You can thank me later.
Keep An Hour For Battling | My Mantra
This is not an absolute necessity but battling for an hour (or less) can help you learn the trick of the trade. What more, you earn chests for the battles and each chest has some goodies. If you get cards in the chest, then congratulations, because those are soul-bound, meaning, you can’t buy them but only get them through chests.
Who would you not want goodies for playing? Then go and play. This is what Play2Earn is all about.
