Splinterlands
Splinterlands is going through major shakeups, and I love every bit of it. The latest is the change in layout. Now there are two things to it – one, is the change itself, and two, what are our thoughts about the change? Whatever the case, we cannot argue against the need to change. For that alone, Splinterlands gets a thumbs up! But as a bonus, I like the new layout. 😊
Looks are subjective and so are my friends' views on different forums where we discuss Splinterlands. Some like it, some don’t but that’s how it is. Now, we’ve got to experience a battle in the new arena. Let’s go.
But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

The Game Layout
One of the reasons I like the layout is because of the game recording that remains unobstructed by the cursor when we go on to hit the “Battle” (earlier rumble) button. If we look down, the other conditions of the battle, like fray, arena tactics, and arena hosts are also shown. This is a brawl that I have shown here hence the arena details. Earlier none of these details were available on the battle screen.
The new layout is an upgrade for sure. Anyway, as promised, we will look at a battle in the new arena.
The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows
We will take a look at the rules and then proceed to the battle.
The battle is a high mana one with a 51-mana cap. There are only two splinters allowed – Earth and Dragon. The cripple rule is in play, so the shield is not going to be useful necessarily. Let’s see if we can make these rules work for us.
The Face-Off Screen
And here is the lineup.
First and foremost, look at the layout. Doesn’t it look rad? I mean, I love it. Anyway, let’s look at the lineup.
My team is at the bottom of the screen while the opponent is at the top. The opponent has gone with the Dragon Splinter and his/her summoner gives an additional attack value for magic monsters. I, on the other hand, have gone with the Earth Splinter and have taken a summoner that gives additional health, void (partly takes care of the opponent’s summoner), and shatter ability. Not only that, but the monster in the fourth position of my lineup, Mushroom Seer, also reduces the opponent’s magic monsters’ attack by one. In short, Mushroom Seer neutralizes the opponent’s summoner.
This should work in my favor. Let’s see.
We Battle Hard
By the end of round 2, it was near annihilation of the opponent.
My summoner and Mushroom Seer together were neutralizing the opponent’s magic monsters. So, I wasn’t taking much hit, but I was inflicting serious damage. It was just a matter of time from here.
And The Battle Races to Conclusion
The battle did race to a conclusion.
Close to the end of round 3, it was game over for the opponent. I got lucky with a magic debuffing monster and a summoner with void. It took away the opponent’s attack completely.
I won.
A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result
While the battle was fun, I was still looking at the layout and background. It does give it a cool view as compared to the rocky-black background earlier. So, it was a double win for me. 😊
I loved the battle. How about you? I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle too. You can also look at it live in the links provided below. Have fun! 😊
Namaste!
