Splinterlands | Opportunity Rule | Only Ranged Attackers

Splinterlands | Opportunity Ability

Opportunity ability is one of the earliest in the game and I loved it much. The basics of the rule is that any monster that is ready to attack will direct its attack on the monster with the lowest health. That destroys the smaller monsters from the opponent’s lineup.

In the early days opportunity was an ability that few monsters had. However, later on, opportunity became one of the rules of the game. This was incredible since all monsters could act as one with opportunity ability. It led to crazy cross-attacks in the game and I loved it.

How about taking a look at the opportunity rule in play? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Opportunity Rule | Tiny Guys Beware!

In many cases, low-health monsters packed some punch, but they would usually be in any position other than first. Also, monsters with life-leech ability, start low on health. Normally, these can be handled by either a regular monster or one with a sneak ability.

However, if the said monsters are in the middle of the lineup, then we need the opportunity ability. That’s the advantage of monsters with opportunity or the opportunity rule in play. Monsters with life-leech ability are neutralized even before they become a threat. There are many cases where the opportunity ability plays a crucial role.

The blast-ability is another rule where a monster with opportunity can cause some serious damage. Since these monsters go after the low-health ones in the middle of the opponent’s lineup, they invariably damage the monsters adjacent to them during the blast rule. And that’s crazy good to watch while the opponent’s lineup crumbles.

Anyway, let’s get on with our battle.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.

OA_Rule.jpg

This was an interesting battle where both, the opportunity and the ranged-attackers-only rule, were in play. To add to that, this was a high mana battle. I like these scenarios but the ranged attackers part was one interesting thing to take care of.

So, how did it go? Let’s find out.

The Face-Off Screen

Both teams faced off.

OA_B1.jpg

Both of us went for the Life Splinter with General Sloan as summoner. General Sloan gives one additional attack value to all ranged attackers. It was the obvious choice since we were in a ranged attackers game. The opponent’s team is at the bottom of the screen while mine is at the top.

I had an ace up my sleeve as I took Anachron Bolter in my lineup. You can see the same in the third position. What it does is it reduces the ranged attack value of all opponent’s monsters by one. In effect, it neutralized the opponent’s summoner.

I got an increase in attack value but the opponent did not. I think this worked out in my favor.

We Battle Hard

By the end of round 2, I was well in control.

OA_B2.jpg

My monsters were strong and dismantled the opponent’s lineup with ease. We were only in round 2, and more than half of the opponent’s lineup was gone. Technically, the opponent just had one monster as the one in the first position could not attack.

We know which way the battle was going.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

Round 3 rounded it all.

OA_B3.jpg

It was just one more round for my team to eliminate the opponent’s lineup. It happened quite fast and mercilessly. Well, this was just a game. 😉

I won!

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

The opportunity rule is always fun but coupled with the ranged attack rule, the fun was twice the normal. It was easy for me as the opponent used too many low-health monsters. I guess the opponent did not have too many big attack monsters, and that worked in my favor.

Anyway, it was a fun battle and I hope you enjoyed reading about the same. Do take a look at the battle live in the link provided below. Enjoy!

Namaste!
