Splinterlands | Waka Spiritblade | Can You Stand the Poison?

Splinterlands | Waka Waka!

Since the launch of Waka Spiritblade early last year, I must have had only three battles against the owners of Waka. I won two of them and lost one. Waka is a potent summoner and it is luck if we end up on the winning side against it. In saying so, I admit that I was lucky to win against Waka.

Even a single monster with poison ability in the opponent’s lineup is one tough monster to handle. Now, imagine a summoner giving all the monsters the poison ability. That’s an insane amount of poison to handle. 😊

How about we see the Waka Spiritblade in action? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Waka Spiritblade | The Poisonous Summoner

The poison ability works the same as the stun ability. The attacking monster will have a 50% chance of inflicting the opponent’s monster with poison. So, there is a lucky chance that we may survive a monster with poison ability in the opponent’s lineup.

But this probability changes drastically when all monsters get the poison ability. And that is thanks to Waka Spiritblade as the summoner. Now, with each monster still having a 50% chance of inflicting poison, and if all monsters from six positions attack the opponent’s monster, then, at least, one will inflict poison immediately. So, your chance of escaping from the poison is much less. And then you lose.

But I won. Isn’t that interesting? 😊

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

So, how did I win? We are going to see that shortly.

A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.

WS_Rule.jpg

The battle was a 17-mana game while each monster got double armor. The armor is of little consequence when the poison rule is in play. Poison applies directly to health, much like magic. So the armor doesn’t make much difference.

The challenge here is to fit a good number of monsters in that small mana. And remember, at this point, I don’t know that I will be going against Waka.

The Face-Off Screen

And we finally see the lineup and the summoners.

WS_B1.jpg

The opponent’s lineup is at the bottom of the screen and that is where you see Waka Spiritblade as the summoner. Both the opponent and I have chosen Death Splinter, and just to be clear, Waka is a summoner from the Death Splinter.

Except for the magic monster in my lineup, we are more or less matched in the monster lineup.

Oh wait, we aren’t matched! I am severely underpowered because of Spiritblade.

We Battle Hard

But the battle took an interesting turn; much to my liking.

WS_B2.jpg

My furious chicken at the back of the lineup took the brunt of the opponent’s sneak monsters' attack. But my tank also has got inflicted with poison. So, that’s a challenge. The good part is that my magic monster is still unaffected and one of the opponent’s sneak monsters has gone to the first position. That makes it relatively easy for my magic monster.

Let’s see how the battle progressed.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

By round 5 it is all over. For the opponent.

WS_B3.jpg

I was really lucky that despite three hits, my magic monster was not inflicted with poison. That did the trick. Once the ranged attacker came to the front, there was nothing the opponent could do.

And that was a wrap and a win! 😊

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

Let me tell you this, I was extremely lucky. If my magic monster at the back had been inflicted, it wouldn’t have been there to attack the opponent’s sneak monsters in the first position. And from there, the opponent would have won. Today I won but it may not always be the case.

When going against the Spiritblade, you would wish you had a cleanse monster in the lineup. Otherwise, it is always up to chance. Today was my day! 😊

Namaste!
