Splinterlands | Tournaments
I started playing Splinterlands back in 2020 and I enjoyed the game. I tried Tournaments back then, took a break from tournaments, and now again started participating in tournaments. To cut a long story short, today's tournaments are so much easier to participate and provide many more options to decide. Well, let me talk about the long story as well.
Back then the main issue with tournaments was that, we had to participate in the prescribed time of participation. Meaning, that if I am on the East Coast, U.S., and the tournament is at India time, I would have to get up at 2 a.m. to participate. It made it a tad difficult to play tournaments.
The timing is what got rectified in the newer iterations of tournaments. Let’s talk about that, but before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. It was founded in 2018 and is still going strong. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. There is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Tournaments | And How It Became Easier
Speaking about the tournament timing, the game developers came up with something called “Anytime” participation. What did it mean? In the given duration of the tournament, we can participate at any time and submit our teams. This made it incredibly easier. Now players from around the world could participate at a time convenient to them so long as they submitted the team within the tournament's outer limit (usually 24 hours).
Today not only do we see the “anytime” concept in tournaments but also brawls. A player can log in at any time and submit his/her teams for battle. Easy to understand? Sure is.
So, shall we look at participating in a tournament? Let’s do it.
Tournaments | Victories | And SPS
Before we start, one thing we need to keep in mind is that there are fees to enter a tournament, but that is quite nominal compared to what we win. Just to give you a rough idea from my experience, if I played ranked battles for one hour, I would earn up to 10-15 SPS in the Silver League. This number would go up drastically if I were to brawl. The winning in brawls is anywhere from 25 – 75 SPS in the Silver League. It further goes up in the tournaments where the winning could be anywhere between 200-400 SPS.
So, if I take out few minutes to play a tournament, I stand to earn a lot more than playing ranked battle for an hour. That, sure is a smart proposition in my opinion. And this is how play-to-earn works, right? In light of this fact, shelling out a fee of 50-100 DEC for a tournament is hardly an expense.
On to the tournament then?
Tournaments | Let’s Get Started
The starting point for the tournaments is the same as the ranked game tab. Here it is.
You first click on the play tab on the top left-hand side corner and then select tournaments. That’s it. Now you enter the world of tournaments.
Tournament Options
Once you are on the tournament page, all tournament listings are available to choose from. The options are plenty and there are filters provided at the top of the page.
Irrespective of the league of the player, there is a tournament for every player. You can even choose to play the wild or the modern format, and can further fine tune the options.
Let’s select a tournament for me, shall we?
I will go for this tournament. The tournament has a 100 DEC entry fee. Let’s see the details by clicking on the “view” tab.
Selecting a Tournament
I click on the tournament of my choice to find the details about the tournament. Here’s what I see.
The tournament looks fine to me. It is a bronze league tournament allowing wild format, and all card types are valid. This is right up my alley. And we can see that I have to pay 100 DEC to enter. I am going to do that.
There it is. I paid the 100 DEC and it shows me as registered. I am on for the tournament starting on the 22nd of October. Yay!
Confirmation That I Have Entered the Tournament
And here is the confirmation.
That’s it. As simple as that. Now, I await the tournament to begin and submit my team.
After seeing this, any reason for not trying out tournaments? 😊
Tournaments | Easy to Enter | Lots to Win
As you can see, tournaments are quite easy to enter and easy to play. In fact, kudos to the Splinterlands team for making each game area, ranked battle, brawl, or tournament, this easy. The only thing different about tournaments is the fees, but even that is nominal. The returns are far more impressive than the fees.
I am sure every player can try it out. What is there to lose? Go on. Give it a shot! 😊
Namaste!
