It is going to be one year since we started receiving the SPS airdrop. There are still 4 more days left for the airdrop to end. Everyone is curious to know what will happen to the Splinterlands assets after the airdrop is over. I have the same question too. I think some of the assets will see a huge fall in price and the demand will also reduce. Some people also believe that the price of SPS would stay as it is and the demand for DEC might increase but these are all just speculations. Only after 4 days, we will know what exactly will happen.
Changes to DEC supply
There is a high possibility that the price of DEC can pump or improve in the coming days. I understand there can be selling pressure after the airdrop is over because people were holding their DEC tight only to get the SPS airdrop but now that the airdrop is over, people might start selling their DEC. There is also another strategy that the Splinterlands team is taking now. They announced that they would be giving out only SPS rewards going forward and there will no longer be DEC rewards for the players who play the game.
They are saying that the price of DEC will heal back to its soft peg of 1$ per 1000 DEC. Sometimes I used to wonder why they had to create SPS in the first place. They could have just come up with the SPS rewarding thing for the DEC token itself. There was no need for another new token. It now doesn't make sense when they say that they are going to stop the supply of the old token and going forward increase the supply of the new token.
From this decision I understand that the supply of DEC will be controlled as they have decided to close the faucet but what will happen to the price of SPS. Many people thought the price of SPS would start healing back again because the airdrop is over. But after one faucet is closed they are opening another faucet saying that the game rewards are going to be in the form of SPS. What would be the significance of the DEC token now? I guess it will just become a legacy coin sitting and decorating our wallet. If their approach is to reduce the number of the game token, I'm really happy and welcome that idea.
SPT and other Splinterlands assets
I'm also wondering what would happen to the price of other splinterlands assets and also SPT as well. They all had a very good time when people rushed to purchase them for the sake of airdrop. There will be no demand for SPT anymore after the airdrop is over and there can be huge sell pressure. I also think that some of the splinterlands assets like cards and packs will also have the same problem. There will be no more motivation for people to hold them and that can reduce the value of the cards in the market. We all saw that before the airdrop started.
I'm definitely not losing hope on the game and I'm not skeptical either but just sharing my thoughts here. Splinterlands team has always found some solution or the other for all the problems and hurdles. I hope they will come up with some innovations that would keep the investors intact and the value of the assets intact. Let's see how it goes.
