Today early morning I was woken up by a phone call from a friend. Normally I like to wake up a little late on a weekend, so when he called it was a little annoying for me and I disconnected the first time, and he called again. I thought it must be something urgent, and I answered the second time. So he checked with me that he is going for Temple visits in the city and that if I would wish to join him. For a moment I thought No, I would like to laze out and I said No and disconnected. After that I was feeling restless, and my sleep was also gone. I called him up again and told him that I will join.
After that it was a hush, because I had to get ready and finish all my morning chores, which ideally takes a hour and a half. At 8 he was there at my door step to pick me up. Good I took the decision of going, as once I was ready I was feeling good and happy to be doing this. It has been a long time that I had visited any temple so I was feeling excited
The first Temple we visited was the Shiva Temple. In a Shiva Temple one finds a Shiv Ling, which represents the supreme cosmic power, the power of all existence, the power of fertility. A Shiv Ling is a cylindrical pillar like which is made of stone in general but you will also find it in metal, gem, or precious stones in some temples.
After this we visited the Krishna Temple. This one is a little bigger one, and I like this place.
In the Courtyard of the Temple there is a big Tulsi plant, which is the highlight here.
There are only 3 Temples in the City, of which 2 are Hindu Temples and 1 a Sikh Temple Gurudwara. After visiting these 2 we went to the Gurudwara.
It's a very simple set up, but very very peaceful. Every Friday they have a community lunch service.
The inside of the Gurudwara. I sat here for a long time since there was absolutely no one and it was so very peaceful.
When I visit a temple, I normally do not do any offerings. I do not believe in doing that, I would rather spend that money to feed someone who is in need. In Indian Temples there is a lot of waste of resources, like in the Shiva Temple, Milk is offered on the Shiv Ling, which eventually goes into a gutter. What a shame. I would rather give that milk to someone who is hungry. Flowers, Coconut, all different sorts of offerings are made, and most of them goes into the bins. One can only bow down, soak themselves into the good energies of the Temple space and feel good. I don't think anything else has any relevance. I know lot of Indians will never agree with me, but I never debate on this topic as I leave each one to their own way of thinking.
That was a good start of the day. I thanked my friend for setting this up and more importantly remembering to invite me.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
