Speakers, how do you use words?

Do you know what I find ridiculous in this modern society? It's the way people openly express cruelty through their speech.

There are tons of lousy and inconsiderate speakers who never care about the ears that listen to their words. They don't weigh the impact of their words on their listeners. Time and time again, they constantly say terrible things. They are only interested in pouring out their heart without a filter.

As you already know, the ability to speak is not limited to public speakers, live show anchors, podcasters or award-winning writers.

For this post, anyone that interacts with another person at any given level (formally or otherwise) is considered a speaker. We are all in this bracket so, read this thoughtfully.

Speakers, how do you use words?

If you are out there saying things without considering the effect those words can have on people, it shows that you do not understand the power of the words you use. Our ability to speak gives us all the nuts and bolts that can be used to build a good rapport with people, give words of advice, teach and inspire those around us.

Sadly, the start of most assaults and abuse has been through words. The same words that are supposed to be used in expressing love and concern are being used to hurt people and express cruelty.

As a teacher, when your student asks a 'useless question' as it's usually called, how do you react to such a question? Some teachers call students 'stupid' for asking a question. If people are cajoled for asking a genuine question in classrooms, how would they summon the courage to ask another question?

That's a mild scenario, yet it demonstrates how impactful our words can be in building or breaking people.

Remember, there is no excuse for using cruel words.

It's a crazy world out there and people are losing their chill by the day. When there is an outburst of emotions, people lose their heads and say all sorts of things out of anger.

Did you know?

A bad mood is never an excuse to use cruel words ~ quote source

We've got to be mindful of our choice of words because we are in danger of hurting those around us if we say things without thinking it through. Heal with your words instead of hurting people with cruel words.

Of course, none of these is meant to be a sort of censorship.
