Social Media Is Never-Ending Comparison
Take a look in restaurants, vacations, or any rare moments; most people would take photos first and then post them on social media.
The reason is actually simple: we need attention and validation.
We’re jealous of others’ lives on social media, so we post to prove ours is good too. But the more we do this, the more insecure we feel because comparison never ends.
People will try harder to impress others and even fake reality. To me, that’s disgusting.
Like my friend once posted a photo of himself sitting in a plane, implying he was going on vacation. But when I asked him where he was going, he admitted it was fake.
I mean, what?
Did he really feel good if people thought he was having a good time? If true, he had a cheap standard of happiness.
Being real is, of course, much more fulfilling. It’s about how we feel, not what others think.
Have You Checked Your Old Facebook Posts?
My friend once said that she doesn’t like men who post a lot on social media. You understand why, right?
By the way, I’m feeling a bit uneasy because I realized that used to be me in my teenage years.
One time, out of curiosity, I opened my Facebook account. I was shocked when I saw it.
I had posted a lot of unnecessary things, like complaining about my rotten food, sharing song lyrics I liked, and even writing romantic messages to someone, hoping they understood.
I embarrassed myself, and if only I hadn’t attached my Facebook account to my favorite game, I would have deleted it.
It’s embarrassing because I showed emotions publicly, like crying or being sad in a crowd for reasons nobody knew.
This could ruin my reputation.
People have seen me as calm and reasonable in real life. But imagine if they found my cringe-worthy Facebook posts.
Be More Mindful in Social Media
The wisest thing I know is to keep silent, whether in real life or on social media.
We don’t need to prove our happiness; just enjoy it for ourselves. Not everyone is happy about our joy. Bragging, even in real life, is disgusting.
We also don’t need to talk too much on social media. In my experience, the more I talked, the more embarrassed I felt.
We’re all human, we’re all fools. Why do we need to show our foolishness when we shouldn’t?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments if you’ve felt the same.
