Hello everyone......

From the deep depths of my collection comes this coin. As many of you already know I am in the process of trying to complete a full run of Morgan Silver Dollars. I’m collecting only the Philadelphia business strike coins.

Why you might ask?

One because I never had a complete set of any strike Morgan Silver Dollar. Two “Business Strike” means only the coins that were struck for use in commerce, which leaves out Proof strike coins. That is the only way pretty much anyone can complete this set.

Why is that?

Because in 1895 there were no Morgan Silver Dollars struck for commerce, only Proof coins were struck. Not only that but there were only 500 struck. The last time I searched for auction closing prices on a sold 1895P Morgan proof was over ten years ago. The winning bid for that coin was just under $100,000. To top it off it wasn’t the nicest looking coin by any means and was not graded.

So that’s why I have chosen this series/set to complete.

There are some very expensive and key date coins that will be hard enough to obtain for me without the 1895P Proof coin. The following years are Key Dates:

1892 sells for just under $1,000
1893 sells for just under $3,000.
1894 sells for just under $7,000.

Yes, those are current prices in MS64 graded condition.

While I still have a handful to obtain before these, I thought I’d share the information.

So today I will be sharing a 1902P graded MS64 PCGS first generation ”Rattler” holder Morgan Silver Dollar with you.

There is some lovely gold toning at the top of this coin, and a tiny bit partially around the outer rim as well. Hopefully it shows up like that in the pictures that you view.

This coin is a guaranteed upgrade coin, but since I’m completing a series/set of MS64 this coin will not be going back for an upgrade.
