"Codename: Ms. Fuego"

[Disclaimer: Everything depicted in this story is fictional and solely the product of the artist/author's imagination. Any resemblance to actual events or people is purely coincidental.]

Ms. Fuego was born in Miami, Florida.

Her parents and grandfather emigrated from Cuba to the United States; eventually becoming Naturalized U.S. citizens.

Generally speaking, Cuban immigration to the United States can be divided into three distinct periods in history.

The first period was during Cuba's bid for independence from Spain and José Martí's famous expositions against Spanish colonial rule.

Amidst the political unrest of this period, the rich and powerful families of the Cuban cigar industry in Florida financed droves of Cuban Americans to leave Cuba and immigrate to the United States.

Ironically, the second period of Cuban immigration was during the Great Depression.

While Americans were comiserating with each other about their horrible economic conditions, most Cubans still believed that, compared to their lot in Cuban life, the chances for finding work and attaining a higher standard of living was infinitely better in the United States.

During this period, most of the U.S. government was focused on diminishing the effects of the nation's economy upon its citizens.

This preoccupation with U.S. financial deficits resulted in distracted, lackadaisical port officials and lax enforcement of immigration policy; allowing thousands of Cuban immigrants to quickly enter the United States without the usual delays, harassments or "donations" - AKA bribes to port authority personnel.

The third period of Cuban immigration was during Fidel Castro's Communist rule.

Miami quickly became overwhelmed by the sheer number of immigrants fleeing from Castro's death squads and seeking asylum in United States.

Ms. Fuego's parents and grandfather are genuine "Marielitos" from this period.*

Before joining billionaire Raymond Kohl's Personal Security Detail,**, Ms. Fuego did a three year enlistment in the U.S. Marines, was a Vice Cop for the Miami PD for three years and a U.S. Marshall for...you guessed it, three years.

That's why Raymond and Ms. Fuego's co-workers call her "The Lioness with 9 lives".***

*The Mariel boatlift (Spanish: éxodo del Mariel) was a mass emigration of Cubans who traveled from Cuba's Mariel Harbor to the United States between 15 April and 31 October 1980. The term "Marielito" (plural "Marielitos") is used to refer to these refugees in both Spanish and English. (Wiki).

**The Security Detail - known as "The Pool" to its members and insiders, is an elite group of highly trained and fiercely loyal bodyguards, combat survival instructors and covert operatives - all under the guise of being an ordinary Executive Secretary.

***Origin of the phrase "a Cat's Nine Lives" -
The proverb that started it all states: "A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays."
