The land snail species known by its scientific name, Eobania vermiculata, is the girdled horn snail. Its shell usually has a conical form and is distinguished by prominent ridges called "girdles" that give it a distinctive look. These snails are well-known for having a wide range of colours, from pale brown to deeper shades. Girdled horn snails inhabit gardens and woodland areas, where they consume leaves and decomposing plant material for sustenance. Depending on their population size, they can be advantageous or damaging to gardens and play a part in the cycling of nutrients.

Large populations of this little snail can occasionally be observed in mangrove mudflats, monsoon drains, and shallow, protected areas close to the ocean.

Dimensions: 2-3cm. Conical shell with big bead spirals inside. Large aperture in the shell that expanded at the tip like a spout. Operculum black and slender, spiralling tightly.

Sometimes mistaken for Bazillion snails, which lack a spout-like tip and a flared shell aperture.

rounded aperture on shell with spout-like tip.
What consumes it? It feeds on microscopic organisms like bacteria, debris, and diatoms that are developing or settling on the muddy bottom.

Human uses: The shell is used to manufacture lime in the Philippines and is often harvested for food.
